Kathmandu, Ashoj 27(Octber 13): This year, there is more activity in the capital city than last year’s Vijayadashami. In previous years, even on Vijayadashami day, the streets of the capital were often deserted, but this year, there was more activity. A week before Ghatasthapana, floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in various parts of the country had damaged many roads leading out of the capital. As there is less going out of the capital, there is more traffic on the streets.
As the traffic in the capital increased, it was seen that more public and private vehicles were plying on the roads. The traffic police office also said that this year more vehicles than last year were on the road. Those who walked to many places in the capital to get vaccinated also responded that they found public transport more easily this year than in the past. Jagdish Bhandari shared his experience that in previous years, the bus from Ratnapark to Naikap was not available on Vijayadashami.
Although the roads damaged by floods and landslides have been repaired, few travelers have gone out of the capital this year because they may face problems again. Sociologist Kirtikumar Dumi Rai says that many Nepalese families are living in the capital, but fewer travelers are leaving the Kathmandu Valley. He said that the number of people living in the capital, big cities and the capital is increasing. This is why there is more activity in the capital on this year’s Vijayashami.
