The body of Tilmaya, who has been stuck in Malaysia for eleven months, is being brought to Nepal today.

Madhyabindu (Nawalparasi), 17 March: The body of Tilmaya Sarki of Kawasoti Municipality-4, Nawalparasi (east of Bardaghat Sustapur), who was murdered in Malaysia eleven months ago, is set to be brought to Nepal today. The family took the initiative to bring the body after the murder in Malaysia on 29th Baisakh, but there was a delay.

After the news about the delay in bringing Tilmaya’s body to Nepal was published in the RSS on February 1 under the title ’70-year-old mother wandering to bring her daughter’s body’, priority initiatives are being taken to bring the body to Nepal.

After the murder of 25-year-old Tilmayah, who had gone to Malaysia for employment, the family had not received the body nor had they been able to complete the documents for the relief money. Tilmayah, who had divorced her husband and left her six-year-old daughter in the care of her mother, was murdered by a Pakistani national.

Since the news of her daughter Tilmaya’s murder, 70-year-old mother Dhanmaya Sarki had approached various agencies to bring the body back to Nepal. However, Malaysia was reluctant to send the body back to Nepal, saying the investigation into the murder had not been completed. Ranjana Lamsal, a consultant at the Safe Migration Center (Sami Project), said that the issue became a priority after news was published in various media outlets about the family’s suffering due to the delay in bringing the body back.

“After a long effort, the body is being brought to Nepal. We have received information that the plane carrying Tilmaya’s body will land at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu at 12:30 pm on Monday,” he said. “Tilmaya’s sister, Neelmaya Sarki, has gone to Kathmandu on Sunday to receive the body.”

The Malaysian company will bear the expenses of bringing the body from Malaysia to Kathmandu. The body will reach Tilmaya’s family home in Kawasoti-4, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Sustapur) by Monday evening, Lamsal informed. “The body will be brought from Kathmandu to the house through a free hearse provided by the Foreign Employment Board,” he said, “Since all the necessary procedures have been completed, the body will reach the house on Monday itself.”

Despite long efforts, Tilmaya’s elderly mother and minor daughter were in a state of anguish as the body could not be brought to Nepal. Mother Dhanmaya had been visiting the ward office and municipality for 11 months to bring her daughter’s body to Nepal. After the news of Tilmaya’s murder, the news was published through RSS after the delay in arranging all the documents and requesting that the body be brought to the immigration center.

According to the Malaysian Embassy, there has been a delay in sending the body after the investigation is complete as sending the body to Nepal without a final conclusion on the investigation would cause problems in settling the case, said Lamsal, a consultant at the Safe Immigration Center. According to the Foreign Employment Board’s rules, an application for financial assistance must be submitted within one year of the date of death.

“An application has been submitted to the Foreign Employment Board for financial assistance for Tilamaya’s family, and the remaining documents will be submitted later as they will come with the body,” Lamsal said.
