Kathmandu, 10 November - President Ramchandra Paudel is leaving today to participate in the 29th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Paudel will address the high-level session of the 'World Leaders Climate Action Summit' on November 12. The conference will be held for 2 days November 12 and 13.
The conference will also have a high-level meeting on "addressing climate-related damage and loss in mountainous areas". In the world, Nepal is one of the countries most affected by the effects of climate. In the meeting, Nepal will inform about the damage caused by the floods and landslides caused by the unusual weather events in Melamchi, Mustang, Kanchanpur, Thame, Kathmandu Valley and other areas. The main purpose of COP-29 will be to assess the progress made toward the global climate targets, especially those set in the Paris Agreement. Key topics include emission reductions, climate financing for vulnerable countries, adaptation strategies, and implementing practical solutions to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
