An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft has crashed in Ahmedabad, India. The plane was carrying 242 passengers, including crew members. The crash occurred near the airport perimeter during takeoff as the flight was heading toward London. According to Indian media reports, the plane crashed near the Air Customs Cargo office, which is located adjacent to the airport premises.
Air India confirmed the incident on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating: “Flight number AI171, operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick on June 12, 2025, has met with an accident.” The airline added that it is currently gathering more information and will share further updates as soon as possible.
As soon as the plane crashed, thick plumes of smoke were seen rising across the area. Following the accident, police teams reached the site, along with seven fire engines and ambulances. Rescue operations have been initiated. Two teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are also involved in the rescue efforts.
Home Minister Amit Shah has discussed the plane crash with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the Police Commissioner. The central government has assured him of all possible support.
According to Indian news outlet News24 Online, former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, was also reportedly on board the crashed aircraft.

It has been confirmed that 52 British nationals were on board the Air India aircraft that crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. According to Indian media reports, there was also one Canadian national and six Portuguese nationals among the passengers.
The aircraft took off from Ahmedabad airport at 1:38 PM Indian Standard Time and crashed just two minutes after takeoff. A total of 242 people, including crew members, were on board the flight.
