Indian Wrestler’s Dominance in the Wrestling Competition

Sunsari, 24 Oct: On the second day of the three-day wrestling competition at the Kali Than Mela in Bhokraha Narasingha Rural Municipality-7, Sunsari, seven wrestling matches were successfully completed. The event, organized by the Kali Than Temple Mela Management Committee at the local Dhan playground, was marked by the dominance of Indian wrestlers. Wrestlers from various states of Nepal and India are participating in the competition.

The matches featured wrestlers across weight categories ranging from 50 kg to 120 kg, including Monty Pahalman, Rabi Pahalman, Kalu Pahalman, Ritesh Pahalman, and Sobit Kumar Yadav. Out of the 42 wrestlers competing in 21 pairs, 14 wrestlers from seven pairs participated in the day’s events.

Participants from Indian states such as New Delhi, Varanasi, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Lucknow, Rajasthan, and Punjab, alongside Nepali wrestlers from Bara, Parsa, Sunsari, and Saptari, showcased their skills.

The former chairman of the rural municipality, Mahendra Prasad Yadav, expressed that both players and spectators enjoyed the wrestling, which is deeply connected to the fundamental identity and culture of the Madesh region. He was pleased that this annual event in Narasingha is helping preserve the wrestling sport, which is on the verge of decline in the Terai Madesh.

The event was attended by local officials and representatives, including the current Chairman of the rural municipality, Ajmal Akhkar Azad, and several ward chairpersons.

Every year, various wrestling competitions are held in India and Nepal. In these events, Indian and Nepali players participate and showcase their skills. Wrestling is very popular in Nepal’s Terai region and in India. Wrestling competitions are not held in modern halls but on dusty, earthen grounds.

The organizing committee’s chairman, Sachindra Yadav, informed that renowned wrestlers from Nepal and India will be awarded cash prizes at a rate of NPR 5,000 per person. He also reported that the mela has attracted over 60,000 spectators by its second day.
