8th Myagdi Festival begins

Myagdi, 12th January: The 8th Myagdi Festival and provincial-level agriculture, tourism, industrial and trade fair has begun in Beni from today. The festival has been organized by the Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti festival.

Chamber of Commerce President Subin Shrestha said that the festival was organized with the aim of reflecting the importance of Beni, a major trading center on the ancient Silk Road and the Kaligandaki Corridor, known as the ‘Salt Trade Route’ between China and India, and promoting domestic tourism.

Stating that the festival, which will be held for ten days, aims to attract 100,000 domestic and foreign tourists, he informed that a business turnover worth Rs 100 million is expected. Association President Shrestha said that the festival was organized not only for the purpose of buying and selling goods and entertainment but also with the objective of attracting investment by highlighting the overall potential of the district, stimulating economic activities, promoting local products and promoting tourism.

He informed that the festival is also linked to attracting investment in the district’s tourism, agriculture, hydropower, minerals, and forest products industries, preserving culture, identifying talent, promoting tourism, and sports. The district-based Chamber of Commerce and Industry has stated that the festival will be attractive with exhibitions of local, national, and international industrial, agricultural, and livestock products, men’s and women’s volleyball, basketball, folk songs, and artist performances. Today, forefather dance, Ratauli songs, bhajans, Myagdi idol solo folk dance, and tribal and tribal singing exhibitions have been organized.

Pramod Shrestha, former president of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “Two hundred years ago, people from as far away as China and India used to come to Beni to shop at the Maghe Sankranti Fair. In the same vein, the Newar community of the Kathmandu Valley migrated to Beni and settled here, and the Beni and Maghe Sankranti Fairs have special cultural significance.”

Previously, the Myagdi Festival was organized seven times from 2058 BS to 2078 BS. The association has stated that the festival was organized at Beni Bazaar, located at the confluence of the Myagdi and Kaligandaki rivers, to continue the traditional Maghe Sankranti fair.

 

President Deuba’s commitment to give priority to development projects in Myagdi

Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed his commitment to give priority to the development projects of Myagdi district.

During the party cadres’ meeting organized by the Nepali Congress Myagdi in Beni today, President Deuba expressed his commitment to support in the development of roads, river control, health infrastructure, and development of religious tourism in the district. He further committed to coordinating with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to accelerate developmental projects. Former Prime Minister Deuba expressed this while receiving the demand letter from NC district committee here today.

Kham Bahadur Garbuja, NC Myagdi President and member of the House of Representatives, submitted a demand letter to Deuba regarding managing the budget for priority projects in the district. Upon receiving the demand letter, President Deuba promised to discuss with the Prime Minister and ministers and take initiatives for the implementation of the plan.

The demand letter calls for upgrading of the Beni-Darwang-Muna-Dhorpatan road to develop it as an alternative to the Baglung section of the mid-hill highway, for installation of a Bailey bridge at the Phaparkhet on the Beni-Darwang road, and for construction of erosion control project in Beni Bazar, of the Beni-Pakhapani-Malkwang ring road, and of the Pokhrebgar-Ghodepani-Kaski.
