We need to know and understand the importance of Vedas. Vedas are the most ancient and Holy Scriptures of Hinduism.Â
What is Vedas?
The meaning of Vedas is knowledge, so according to Hinduism, Vedas are the repository of knowledge. This is not written by any man, it is the voice or vision received from Gods by the sages during penance for thousands of years. The sages taught their disciples and it transferred generation to generation.
Meaning of Vedas
The Vedas mean knowledge, people to know two things:
1. Iham: How should our physical life be or how should we live. Who knows how to keep our body and mind strong or how to to do good to others.
2. Param: It is related to Spiritual life.
The knowledge of these 2 purposes is found in the Vedas or we can say that the Vedas are the embodiment of knowledge.
Who is the creator of Vedas?
The Vedas were not created by human, made from Brahma. The Vedas are the knowledge that was revealed by the Supreme Souls in the form of subtle shaking when the sages were doing penance for knowledge. The Vedas are eternal, but the Vedas were compiled to guide the human race in different period of times, later sage Ved Vyas divided it into 4 parts.
1. Rigveda
2. Yajurveda
3. Samveda
4. Atharvaveda
Rigveda:Â Rig means praise. In the Veda, the praises of Indra, Agni, Rudra and Varuna, Maruti, Sabitru and Surya are written. In this, exploitation of natural energies is given great importance. It contains 1017 Hymns for the gods. These Hymns are composed of various mantras.
Yajurveda:Â It means ritual, it tells about the various rituals and sacrifices performed for the gods. When a mantra is chanted or its power is experienced then a certain type of offering is given to the respective God for the usefulness of that mantra. In the Yajurveda, it is written about the sacrifice given to the gods through the medium of fire.
Samveda:Â Sam means song. There are verses that are sung in Samveda. Samveda is called the Veda of songs or hymns. The verses of the hymns of the Samveda are made using 7 vowels. Sa. re. ga. ma pa. dha. ni, which is the basis of classical music. The energy of the human body with these 7 tunes, awaken the energy centers of the human body. Most of the verses of Samveda are taken from Rigveda and some verses have also been added. The verses in Samveda should not be recited but should be sung. It is also said: If the Rigveda is a word or scripture, the Samveda is a Veda of hymns. Rigveda is the Veda of knowledge while Samveda is the Veda of experience or feeling. These hymns are sung during puja (worship) or yogya.
Atharvaveda:Â In Atharvaveda, it is written about rituals to achieve worldly happiness. It tells about the effects of diseases or its prevention, sin and its prevention. It includes mantras tantras hymns etc.
