The former minister of Koshi accused of human trafficking, the police brought to Kathmandu

Kathmandu, November 10: The police have brought to Kathmandu the former minister of Internal Affairs and Law minister of Koshi Lila Ballav Adhikari who was arrested in Biratnagar. Adhikari is accused of producing fake documents to facilitate the travel of three people —Dawa Sherpa, 36, Janak Rai, from Khotang, and Kanchan Devkota, 22, from Rasuwa— to Japan, accompanying him. The four, including Adhikari, were deported from Tokyo Airport on October 30. According to Nawaraj Adhikari, the Spokesperson, and Superintendent of Police at the District Police Range in Kathmandu, procedures are underway to bring the suspect to Kathmandu from Morang. Adhikari is also alleged to have received Rs. 1 million each from the three individuals in exchange for illegally facilitating their travel to Japan. The District Police Office in Morang has confirmed his arrest. On Saturday, the CPN (UML) Central Secretariat endorsed the decision of the party’s Koshi Province chapter to expel Adhikari from the party, even by annulling his general membership.—

The home administration was being criticized for not starting an investigation against the outgoing minister of Internal Affairs and Law and MP officials of Koshi province even after collusion with human trafficking gangs was revealed.

Led by the former minister Adhikari, the four flew to Japan to participate in the ‘Culture at Hot’ program organized by Arts Council Tokyo from October 29  to November 3.
