Roshani Shahi’s Two-Page Note: “Son, I Couldn’t Do Anything for You”

Kathmandu, 26 May: Police have found a suicide note written by Roshani Shahi, who was discovered dead in Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur, on Sunday. SP Dhundiraj Neupane of Bhaktapur District Police Office told Ratopati that the two-page note found at the scene will be examined.

Shahi was found dead on the afternoon of Jestha 11 (May 25) in her flat located in Suryabinayak Municipality-3. The note, addressed to her son, was discovered alongside her body on the first floor of the house owned by Laxmi Shwar Mahato in Balgkot, Brihaspati Marg.

Expressing regret for not being able to do anything for her son, she wrote: “I gave up on life.”

According to an official involved in the investigation, the note reads:

“Son, I couldn’t do anything for your future. I gave up on life. I had thought that if I couldn’t send you money, I would end my life.”

She also mentioned a 17-kattha (approx. 0.57 hectares) property in Kohalpur, Banke, in the note.

Roshani’s son lives in the United States, and her daughter is also living abroad. Her husband, Chitrajung Shahi, had gone to Biratnagar 15 days prior to the incident. When the door remained locked for a long time, the landlord informed Chitrajung by phone. As Roshani was taking medication for depression, Chitrajung requested that the door be broken open. The landlord then contacted the police.

DSP Neupane of the Bhaktapur Police said, “We broke the door in the presence of local representatives and found her deceased inside.”

It is suspected that 50-year-old Roshani may have died from a drug overdose. “Only after testing will we know whether or not she had taken an overdose,” said one official involved in the investigation.

Her body has been sent to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for postmortem and viscera examination. She was found lying face down in the flat.
