Kathmandu, 26 May: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized providing warm hospitality to tourists visiting Nepal by eliminating all legal and administrative hurdles. Speaking at the National Tourism Dialogue organized today at Singha Durbar by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, he directed authorities to remove existing bottlenecks and implement broad reforms to strengthen governance and accelerate development.
PM Oli stressed the need to end practices that cause unnecessary inconvenience to travelers, such as immigration hassles, lost luggage, and arbitrary restrictions at border entry points.
“We are working to boost tourism alongside infrastructure development. With expanded connectivity, Nepal is no longer remote. Apples from Jumla now reach Kathmandu’s markets smoothly, 14 border crossings with China have opened, and a bridge is under construction at Kimathanka checkpoint,” said PM Oli. “Transformation takes time when starting from scratch, but there’s no reason for despair. Relevant agencies must ensure seamless facilitation and advance tourism as a foundation for prosperity.”
Aviation Sector Reforms
While affirming the safety of Nepal’s airspace, PM Oli noted that Nepali airlines remain on Europe’s restricted list (blacklist). He instructed authorities to immediately separate the two aviation regulatory bodies and meet all required benchmarks.
Action Plan Presented
The event saw participation from federal and provincial tourism ministers, senior officials, and private sector representatives. An action plan incorporating private-sector suggestions to address tourism challenges was presented for implementation.
