Salyan, 01 Sep: After the mother who gave birth abandoned her 20-month-old daughter and left home, the child has been left in distress. In Patari, Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality–1 of the district, mother Dila Giri left her infant daughter, Deepa Giri, creating a tragic situation.
The girl’s father, Tikaram Giri, died last December. Deepa, who became an orphan after her father’s death, is now in even more trouble after her mother went missing. She has been living in her mother’s house in Siddhakumakh-2, Salghari. While she was living in her maternal home, the 20-month-old girl Deepa’s mother left home without eating breakfast in the morning on Ashad 32(16 July 2025), leaving the innocent girl in a state of distress.
The girl’s maternal grandmother, Dhairi Bohra, said that despite searching, she has not been able to contact her. She said that two days after leaving home, she spoke to her daughter on her mobile phone and told her that she was going to get into a car and go to India, but the contact was lost after that.
She said, “She is a my only daughter, what kind of daughter have I given birth to? Who did you go with, leaving your infant child alone? How cruel you are to not even love the child you gave birth to.”
Recently, after her granddaughter Deepa fell very ill, her grandmother came to Srinagar for treatment to save her life. Grandmother Dhairi, who herself is ill due to a very low vision problem, has admitted her granddaughter to Salyan Karnali Hospital in Srinagar. Since she does not even have money for the treatment, the hospital has arranged for free treatment.
Dipendra Kumar Shahi, the branch manager of Himalayan Life Insurance in Srinagar, arranged food for them. According to hospital officials, the child’s health condition is weak and requires care. The maternal grandmother said that it has been very difficult for her to look after her granddaughter.
“I myself am blind, and my body is not supporting me. I love my granddaughter very much, but it is difficult to take care of her,” he said, expressing his pain. The girl’s father has passed away. After the mother disappeared, there is no one else in the family and the 20-month-old girl is left in the arms of her disabled grandmother at home.
The family says that she has been crying continuously since her mother went missing, but now she seems to be slowly forgetting her mother. Currently, Deepa sleeps with her maternal uncle. However, she is still suffering from the lack of her mother’s love and affection.
“The girl’s condition is very pathetic, and the rest of the society needs to help,” said Shahi, branch manager of Himalayan Life Insurance, Srinagar. The girl’s family has appealed for everyone’s help in finding her mother.
