Patan (Lalitpur), Ashoj 10 (Sep 26): Lalitpur Metropolitan Corporation is going to follow the positive practices of Suwan city in Korea in the field of environment and agriculture.
Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan expressed his desire to exchange positive practices in the field of environment and agriculture in a program organized today in the meeting room of Lalitpur Metropolitan City to welcome the delegation including Lee Hyun Joon, the head of Suwan city in Korea.
Mayor Maharjan expressed his belief that the sisterly relationship between Suwan city and Lalitpur metropolis will further strengthen the friendship between Nepal and Korea. A month ago, Metropolitan Chief Maharjan Suwan had gone there to establish sisterly relations at the invitation of the city.
While welcoming the delegation including the Mayor of Suwan, Lalitpur Metropolitan Chief Maharjan said that Lalitpur can learn good practices from Suwan in the field of agriculture and environment. “In the fields of agriculture and environment, we learn Suwan’s best practices. We want to transfer our good practices in the field of handicrafts and heritage to Suwan city, it can be effective for both of us”, he said.
Lee Hyun John, head of Suwan city, said that he is ready to cooperate with Lalitpur metropolis in every field. He said that he was impressed by Nepali people’s style of harmony, saying that agriculture and environment are priority. Deputy Chief Manjali Shakya Bajracharya expressed his happiness that the sisterly relationship with Suwan city has been established and said that the difference and unity between the two cities should be embraced and moved forward. He said that when he visited Korea last year, he was impressed by the positive work done in the field of agriculture and environment. “The metropolis will learn a lot in these two areas, the recently established sister relationship has paved the way”, he said.
Zhang Yong, vice president of Suwan city, clarified that the visit was scheduled to know about the needs and demands of Lalitpur. Raju Maharjan, the spokesperson of Lalitpur Metropolis and Ward President of Ward No. 9, expressed the view that good practices should be exchanged between the two cities and said that “startups” should be supported to create jobs. He emphasized on the need to work in such a way that the citizens feel that the sisterly relationship between the two cities has been established.
Lee Hungzong, Director of Agriculture Technology Department of Suwan City, said that they will study and discuss what and how to support the agricultural sector. In the program, Ward President Chandralal Maharjan of Ward No. 20, Narayan Lal Awale, Ward President of Ward No. 12, Krishnahari Maharjan, Ward President of Ward No. 27, Suresh Maharjan, Ward President of Ward No. 26 said that there is considerable potential in the agricultural sector within the Lalitpur metropolis and held the view that production should be increased by introducing Korean technology.
Dharam Maharjan, the agricultural advisor of the metropolis, argued that Lalitpur is not only a metropolis but because of technology, Nepal is lagging behind and stressed that production should be increased by introducing Korean technology to Lalitpur. He said, “We should create a model agricultural firm that produces fruits and vegetables using Korean technology.”
A delegation from Korea’s Suwan city has come to Lalitpur to study and explore the possibilities of agriculture in Lalitpur metropolis. Observing agricultural firms operating in Lalitpur metropolis and neighboring municipalities, will discuss about their products. The team including John, who came here for a week-long visit, is scheduled to meet representatives of the Minister of Agriculture and other concerned agencies.
