Kathmandu, Sept 11: The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has agreed to provide 8 million US Dollars (Rs 1.07 billion) for Inclusive Rural Development in Bardiya district. The KOICA and Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration signed a Record of Discussion (RoD) for the implementation of IRDP on Tuesday. Country Director of KOICA, Moo Heon Kong and Joint Secretary at MOFAGA Kali Prasad Parajuli signed the agreement. According to a press release issued by KOICA, the project implementation site will be eight local governments of Bardiya district. The main objective of the project is to enhance the capacity of the community of Bardiya district for agricultural production, upgrade the value chain by establishing market relations and promote sustainable and resilient livelihoods and local economy by promoting environmental tourism initiatives. On the occasion, the Country Director said the project would be an opportunity to bring Korean knowledge and technology to the rural development of Nepal. Koica’s Inclusive Rural Development Project (IRDP) was successfully implemented in Nawalparasi from 2016-2022. It may be noted that Korean government has been extending assistance to Nepal through KOICA in various sectors of health, agriculture, education, vocational training, rural development and information technology since 1991. —
