Kathmandu, 28 Feb: The 44th Establishment Day of the Nepal Magar Association was celebrated with great fanfare in Sukhad, Kailali. On Friday, the Kailali chapter of the Nepal Magar Association organized various programs at the helipad in Sukhad, located in Ghodaghodi Municipality-1, to mark the occasion. The event was graced by the chief guest, Khadak Bahadur Rawat, the Mayor of Ghodaghodi Municipality, and witnessed a massive turnout of the Magar community from all local levels within Kailali district as well as from neighboring districts.
The program was organized with the pledge to rewrite the proud history of the ancient Magar civilization and to work towards the creation of the ‘Magarat Philosophy’, according to Birendra Thapa Magar, the District President of the association in Kailali. The celebration featured vibrant presentations of various cultural dances and displays showcasing the rich traditions of the Magar community. A key part of the event was the felicitation of individuals who have made significant contributions to the community in diverse fields, including sports, arts, and various social sectors.

The association stated that the day is commemorated annually with diverse programs aimed at preserving and promoting the traditional attire, language, culture, and customs of the Magar people. It also serves as a platform to address and eliminate social, economic, and educational distortions within the community, working towards the creation of a prosperous Magar society through systematic documentation and awareness. Khasu Magar, the Central Co-Chair of the Magar Association, emphasized the critical need for the community to not only protect but also transmit its language, attire, culture, traditions, food habits, and religion to future generations. He highlighted that such celebratory events play a vital role in empowering the Magar community socially, economically, and politically.
Mayor Khadak Bahadur Rawat, in his address, acknowledged the diverse ethnic composition of the municipality, with various castes and communities living in harmony. He reassured that the municipal government is committed to providing all possible support for the holistic development and cultural preservation of every community residing within its jurisdiction.
The Nepal Magar Association was originally established on Falgun 15, 2039 B.S. This historic day is celebrated annually across the country with various events, as shared by Bima Pun Magar, the District Vice-President of the Kailali chapter. She informed that the establishment day has been observed in Kailali since 2052 B.S., with last year’s main event held in Dhangadhi. The two-day celebration in Kailali was slated to conclude on the second day with a review session and an official closing ceremony.
