Warning Protest from Rastriya Prajatantra Party

Kathmandu, 8 April: Today, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) held a massive protest in Balkhu, Kathmandu, to challenge and warn the Government of Nepal. The protest, aimed at reinstating the monarchy, featured speeches from various RPP leaders holding different positions within the party.

The leaders addressing the rally expressed anger not just at the system but particularly at the way leaders of the ruling parties govern the country. They declared that they would not rest until there is a change in leadership behavior.

During the rally, RPP leaders warned that if the ruling coalition partners, the UML and Nepali Congress, do not correct their course, the people will be forced to take action—going house to house like in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to drag out corrupt leaders.

In his speech, RPP leader Gyanendra Shahi accused Congress and UML of jointly fostering corruption in the country. He stated that leaders who have been in government over the years are responsible for shutting down industries and factories, and for widespread corruption in various sectors.

Similarly, addressing the warning rally, RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden claimed that leaders like Oli, Deuba, and Prachanda are incapable of putting the country on the right track. “Today, the country is in chaos and a state of ruin in every sense. There is no possibility of these leaders fixing the country or bringing it back on track,” said Lingden. “Therefore, we must create a widespread public pressure movement across the country to restore it and build a better nation within our lifetime.”

“If they don’t change, I won’t say we’ll resort to violence, but we can surround Baluwatar (Prime Minister’s residence) and cut off food and water,” warned Lingden. “Don’t mistake RPP going to Balkhu today as a weakness. Mr. KP Oli, Mr. Home Minister—don’t take peace and non-violence as a sign of weakness!”

Chairman Lingden also warned the ruling class not to assume that power will always remain in their hands. Referring to leader Durga Prasai, he said, “It was the police who drove Durga Prasai away. The police should perform their duties as civil servants, not as members of any party’s affiliate organization.”

Today’s addresses were marked by powerful and passionate speeches from  party leaders.
