Tourism Board engaging the youth to promote new destinations

Kathmandu, 29 April: The Nepal Tourism Board is engaging the youth in the exploration and promotion of new destinations. With the aim of highlighting the splendor and uniqueness of new destinations to promote the country’s tourism, the Nepal Tourism Board organized the ‘Connecting Content Creators with Package Curators’ program in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

The Nepal Tourism Board has brought together tourism product creators and tourism entrepreneurs on a single platform to promote new destinations. During the event, video presentations showcased tourist destinations ranging from Api Himal in the far west to the Mundhum Trail in the far east. These videos featured destinations across all seven provinces that have yet to receive significant promotion.

Addressing the program, the Board’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Deepak Raj Joshi emphasized the need to fully utilize technology and involve the new generation in the promotion and marketing of tourism. He stated, “While promoting the long history of our tourism sector, we have mostly focused on the same limited destinations. As global tourism trends have changed over the past decade, we must adopt new methods to explore and promote new destinations.”

Highlighting that young people across the country are independently exploring and traveling to new destinations, CEO Joshi added, “The youth working as ‘content creators’ in all seven provinces are uncovering and promoting the hidden splendor and uniqueness of distant areas. This program aims to connect them with tourism product creators.”

Joshi further noted that in the future, the Tourism Board must move forward with new strategies and collaborate closely with the traveling youth. He added, “We are committed to reimagining tourism in partnership with content creators.”

At the event, writer and Himal Media publisher-editor Kanak Mani Dixit encouraged participating tourism product creators and content creators to engage in the development of quality tourism. He remarked, “We needed to move beyond traditional styles of tourism promotion. The Board’s initiative is a positive step. It is no longer enough to simply say that we have the Himalayas and Mount Everest. We also need to promote our cultural heritage and other natural wonders. Although young people across the country are working individually toward this goal, it has not been sufficient. It requires coordinated efforts from all stakeholders.”

Participants presenting video materials on new tourism destinations, their potential, and current promotion efforts included Manoj Acharya from Koshi Province, Manish Ruchal from Madhesh and Bagmati Provinces, Hemant Bhandari from Gandaki Province, Pallav Pandit from Lumbini Province, Sirjana Oli (Sirjana Sizzju) from Karnali Province, and Hemant Rai from Sudurpaschim Province. Additionally, an interaction session was held between content creators and package curators.
