Today is Kushe Aunsi, Father’s day

Kathmandu, 23 Aug: The Kushe Aunsi festival, celebrated every year on the day of Bhadra Krishna Aunsi, is being celebrated today (Saturday) by the followers of the Vedic Sanatan religion by bringing the sacred Kush, which is used in divine and ancestral works throughout the year, into every household.

According to the scriptures, keeping a Kush tree, which has been worshipped by a Brahmin and uprooted and taken to the judge, at home is believed to bring prosperity to the family. According to the scriptures, it is believed that Kush trees uprooted on this day can be used throughout the year, while Kush trees uprooted on other days can be used only on that day, informed Prof. Dr. Ramchandra Gautam, a theologian and former chairman of the Nepal Panchanga Nirikhaya Bikash Samiti.

Followers of Sanatan Dharma consider Kush, Tulsi, Peepal and Shaligram as symbols of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that the creator Brahmaji created the sacred Kush along with intelligent beings. These days, Kush kept in every home is used in divine and ancestral works throughout the year.

Respect for Fathers

On this occasion, children traditionally show their respect and honor by feeding their fathers their favorite sweets and food, and by visiting their father’s face. They visit various holy places where their father is not present and perform tarpan, pindadan, and shraddha in their father’s name.

On this day, a special fair is held in the premises of the Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple in the northeastern part of Kathmandu, known as Uttar Gaya. Therefore, today’s Aunsi is also known as Gokarne Aunsi. On this occasion, there is a crowd of people in the premises of the Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple who offer tarpan, pindadan and sidadadan in the name of their deceased father.

According to the religious belief ‘Pitru Devo Bhava’, on this day, children will be happy if they offer food to their living father with devotion and receive blessings. Since their father has passed away, if they go to Gokarna or other pilgrimage sites and offer tarpan and siddha, they will gain merit and their family will be established, as mentioned in the religious scripture Buddokta Parajikaya.

It is also called auspicious festival because even if you donate a little, you will get thousands of times more results. According to the scriptures, if the donation is made in the wrong container, both the giver and the recipient will go to hell, said the theologian Gautam. There is a scripture that says that even if you give to the poor and needy, you should give it in the right container.
