Kathmandu, 9 Nov: Three youths from Gorkha have climbed Lamjung Himal, demonstrating courage, patience, and dedication. Sandip Gurung, Sujal Gurung, and Buddha Bahadur Gurung from Laprak, Dharche Village Municipality-4, Northern Gorkha, have brought glory to Laprak by scaling the 6,983-meter-high Lamjung Himal.
Located on the border of Manang and Kaski, this mountain was first climbed in 1974 by British Army personnel Derek Chamberlain and Philip Neame. Since then, many climbers had attempted to scale it repeatedly but had not been successful.
The three-member team of climbers from Gorkha successfully set foot on the summit of Lamjung Himal at 3 PM on October 27. During the ascent of Lamjung Himal, the team of three youths demonstrated unwavering courage amidst heavy snowfall, storms, and temperatures below zero, successfully reaching the summit.
“Our goal as three youths was not just to climb the mountain,” said Sandip Gurung, a member of the climbing team. “Along with igniting courage and potential among the youth of Laprak, we have achieved this success by overcoming difficult circumstances,” was his statement.
The three climbers considered the mountain climb as a symbol of patriotism and a new chapter of self-confidence, so upon reaching the summit of Lamjung Himal, they hoisted the national flag and a banner bearing the name of their village.
It has been reported that the ascent of Lamjung Himal was successful due to their indomitable courage and self-confidence while facing challenges like snow, cold, and lack of oxygen during the climb, and they have safely returned to the base camp, with all members currently in normal health condition.
“Lamjung Himal is a historic ascent in the field of mountaineering,” said climber Sandip Gurung. “In 51 years, many climbers had attempted to climb Lamjung Himal but could not succeed. Our team succeeded on the first attempt.”
Lamjung Himal is a beautiful yet challenging mountain situated on the border of Manang and Kaski, with an altitude of 6,983 meters. Nepali climbers have successfully scaled this mountain in very small numbers. This time, the success achieved by the youth of Laprak, Gorkha, has become a matter of pride for Gorkha and the entire country.
