Tauthali, Sindhupalchok

Kathmandu, 28 April: According to the latest official data available from the 2011 (2068 B.S.) census, Tauthali village, located under Tripurasundari Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchok District, had a total population of 2,762 people living in 776 households. Among them, there were 1,255 males and 1,507 females.

The Tauthali area of Sindhupalchok is naturally very beautiful, with its forests, hills, and rivers home to a variety of birds and wildlife. Some commonly found birds and animals in this region include:

Birds:

  • Danphe (Himalayan Monal – Nepal’s national bird)

  • Fiste (Sunbird)

  • Ghogho Chara (Hill Partridge)

  • Chibe (Drongo)

  • Giddha (Vulture)

  • Kaligaunthali (Magpie)

  • Bhakur (Woodpecker)

  • Latokosero (Common Myna)

  • Small Warblers

Wildlife:

  • Himalayan Black Bear

  • Leopard

  • Deer (such as Barking Deer)

  • Wild Boar

  • Gray Langur (a type of monkey)

  • Various species of rats and mice

  • Snakes (especially during the warmer seasons)

Because the area is part of a high-hill region, there is also a possibility of finding rare species like the Red Panda in the surrounding forests, although they are extremely rare near Tauthali itself.

Cultural Aspects

Festivals and Celebrations:

Local festivals and traditional celebrations are observed with great enthusiasm in Tauthali. Major events include the Ganesh Jatra, Bajrayogini Jatra, and various rituals dedicated to local deities. Traditional Newar culture is still very much alive here.

Religious Sites:

Tauthali is home to several ancient monasteries and temples, including the historically significant Bajrayogini Temple. These sites host religious activities throughout the year.

Language and Ethnicity:

The area has a dense settlement of the Newar community. Their language, attire, customs, and traditions are still preserved in their authentic form. Additionally, Tamang, Magar, and other ethnic groups also reside here.

Traditional Arts and Culture:

Newar music, dances (such as Lakhe dance and Dhime Baja drum performances), and traditional foods (like Samaybaji and Choila) are distinctive features of Tauthali. Traditional architecture, especially stone-and-mud houses, can still be seen in some parts of the village.

Social Structure:

The traditional Guthi system (a socio-religious institution) remains active, organizing and managing various social and religious events within the community.
