Dumre (Tanahun), 24th Poush (8 January): The 9th Tanahun Agriculture Tourism and Technology Festival is going to be held with the main slogan ‘Tanahun Festival is our base, infrastructure for economic and social development’. Organized by the Tanahun Chamber of Commerce and Industry and co-organized by the Damauli Bazaar Unit of the Tanahun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the 9th Tanahun Festival is going to be held from 25th Poush to 7th Magh (January 9-20)at BP Banbatika, Byas Municipality-3.
The organizers have stated that the promotion of agricultural produce has been given top priority at the festival. Baikunthanath Mishra, the president of the Tanahun Chamber of Commerce and Industry and coordinator of the festival’s main event committee, informed that agriculture has been given top priority to protect the profession as the land is becoming barren due to problems such as farmers’ produce not being sold and having to be sold cheaply.
“When farmers have to sell cheaply through intermediaries, there is a situation where the cost price does not rise and farmers are forced to flee. The consumers are forced to buy at a higher price. With the main objective of reducing this and protecting the farmers, we have prioritized agriculture in the festival,” said Chairman Mishra.
He said that free rooms have been arranged for farmers and initiatives have been taken to arrange free transportation by writing to the district municipalities. He also informed that excellent farmers will be honored to encourage them. The organizers said that they are expected to provide information about marketing of agricultural products, new technologies and motivate youth to join the professional agricultural profession.
It is expected that the festival will attract unemployed youth towards commercial agriculture, increase income through marketing of agricultural produce, increase the use and production of advanced and hybrid varieties of seeds, and attract youth who have returned from abroad towards agriculture and enhance their professionalism. The festival will promote tourism in Tanahun and promote religious and historical sites, said Pavindra Kumar Shrestha, outgoing president of the Tanahun Chamber of Commerce and Industry and director of the festival.
Under agriculture, an exhibition of agricultural products, an exhibition of local handicrafts and an exhibition hall of agricultural materials produced by local industries will be set up. The festival will include local agricultural products and products including cereals, pulses, cash crops, fruits, vegetables, honey. The festival will also include dairy products and production technology, livestock products and production and technology, egg-laying meat products, and fish dishes, according to the organizer.
