Prohibition continues across the country: Army urges people to trust official information

Kathmandu, 10 Sep: Keeping in mind the prevailing situation, the Nepali Army has stated that the curfew will continue across the country till 5 pm today (17:00 hrs) and thereafter a curfew order will be issued till 6 am tomorrow (06:00 hrs) on Bhadra 26. The statement issued by the Army states that further information will be made public after analyzing the situation.

In an appeal issued on Tuesday by the Public Relations and Information Directorate of the Nepal Army under the Ministry of Defense, serious concern has been expressed over the incidents of vandalism, arson, looting, violent attacks and attempts at sexual violence that have been taking place during the protests. It has been urged for cooperation from all citizens to control such criminal activities.

The army has once again expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and property during the protests and requested everyone to support the efforts of the security personnel in such a sensitive situation. It has been stated that essential service vehicles (ambulances, hearses, fire engines, vehicles of health workers and security personnel) will operate during the prohibition and curfew.

 The Nepali Army has also warned that any demonstration, vandalism, looting, arson, or attacks on individuals and property in the name of the movement will be considered a punishable crime and strict action will be taken.

Similarly, all retired soldiers, civil servants, media personnel and the general public have been urged to rely only on official information without believing in rumors or misleading news. The army has expressed its commitment to fulfill its responsibility for the security of the Nepali people and humanitarian rescue in any situation, stating that everyone’s cooperation is necessary to maintain national unity, social harmony and normal life.

Army urges continuous surveillance to prevent unwanted activities

Stating that the Nepal Army and other security agencies are deployed day and night to maintain peace, security and harmony in the country, the Military Public Relations and Information Directorate has urged the general Nepali citizens to remain vigilant and continuously monitor to prevent unwanted activities in the society.

In a notice issued today by the Directorate of Information, the local community has urged them to stay safe in their neighborhoods and communities by coming together and exchanging information about the situation before the security forces arrive.

The Nepal Army has requested that if you see any destructive and chaotic activities in your community, such as looting, arson, and loss of life and property, in connection with the existing security challenges in the country and in various places by unruly elements, to send a message to the Nepal Army’s number 9863029029 as soon as possible.

The notice states, “As some nefarious elements are trying to exaggerate the situation and create an atmosphere of fear by posting misleading news on social media, we are hereby informed to cooperate by disseminating only accurate news from our respective areas to neutralize such activities.
