Kathmandu, Ashoj 4 (Sep 20): Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has left for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which is being held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, United States of America, leading the Nepalese delegation today.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, Speaker of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal, Deputy Prime Ministers Bishnu Prasad Paudel and Prakashman Singh, Ministers, MPs, high-ranking officials of the Government of Nepal, heads of security agencies and others bid farewell to Prime Minister Oli in the special room of Tribhuvan International Airport. On that occasion, a troop of the Nepali Army offered garat in honor of Prime Minister Oli.
Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on October 10, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This year’s general debate of the Mahasabha is ‘Leaving no one behind: working together for peace, sustainable development and development of human dignity for the present and future generations’. He will participate in the opening session of the general debate of the General Assembly on October 8 and the reception hosted by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, on October 9. During his stay in New York, Prime Minister Oli will address the conference as the chairman of the Global Coordination Bureau of LDCs (LDC), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Besides, he will also address the high-level meeting on ‘High-level and ‘Antimicrobial’ resistance’, a group on the existential threat posed by sea-level rise.
Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on ‘Nepal’s Journey to Democracy and Economic Prosperity’ to be held at Columbia University on October 7, and to address a program on ‘Nepal’s Perspective: From Transitional Justice to Climate Justice’ at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at Harvard University on October 11. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and hold bilateral talks. The team led by Prime Minister Oli includes his wife Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Foreign Secretary Seva Lamsal and senior officials of the Government of Nepal. He will return home on October 14.
