Nine kilometers of Roshi River demarcation completed

Kavrepalanchok, 26 January: The demarcation work of the Panauti River in Kavrepalanchok, which was affected by the severe floods and landslides in the second week of Asoj, and the demarcation work of the Roshi River as part of the land consolidation work has been completed. The demarcation of the nine-kilometer river was completed within a period of two weeks by technicians from various offices in the district.

After the flood and landslide destroyed the river demarcation and the condition of the land of the people, Panauti Municipality and District Survey Office had jointly started work to restore the land to its previous condition. The work has been started from the Bhumedanda area in Ward No. 12 Roshi of the municipality to assess the damage caused by the flood and landslide and restore the condition of all types of land to its previous condition. Ashok Kumar Bhusal, Chief Survey Officer of the Survey Office, said that the demarcation of the nine-kilometer river from Bhumedanda to Trivenighat in Panauti has been completed.

According to Officer Bhusal, after the demarcation of the river, the restoration of individual land plots is being carried out based on the applications called out to the locals. The work of ‘layout’ of Roshi River in Roshi area has been started by deputing employees from Panauti Municipal Office, Survey Office and Land Management Training Center. Officer Bhusal said that teams from the three offices are conducting the study using DGPS, drones, total stations, etc. According to him, the team will show the former river, plots and land in the mining area using DGPS technology.

It is estimated that it will take three months to identify the land in the area. Officer Bhusal said that it is a challenge to identify the condition of the land that is being used by individuals. According to him, 60 plots have been identified so far. It is said that coordination and support will be sought from the Digital Survey Office, Banepa, if necessary. The locals, on the other hand, have been demanding that the reconstruction work should start only after restoring the river area and individual plots.

n Panauti, 18 people died due to floods and landslides. 586 houses were completely damaged and 944 houses were partially damaged. The municipality has stated that 11,637 ropanis of private farmlands were damaged in the area.

Meanwhile, Panauti Municipality has decided to provide a 100 percent exemption on property taxes for citizens in flood-affected areas. The 16th municipal assembly took this decision and decided to provide a 100 percent exemption on property taxes in some designated areas.

Mayor Ram Sharan Bhandari said that the decision on revenue exemption will be implemented only after the relevant ward monitors and recommends the removal of flood and landslide-affected areas. The flood-affected areas for which tax exemption has been decided are Manedobhan and Newrekhola in Ward No. 1, Kushadevi in ​​Ward No. 2, all areas of Ward No. 5 and 6, Bagar area in Ward No. 8, Salandu and Roshi Khola edge area in Ward No. 10, Khyakuthumki, Dandagaun and Nepane areas in Ward No. 11, and the entire area of ​​Ward No. 12. The facility will be provided to flood and landslide victims who have paid other taxes and revenue due in the current fiscal year.

Similarly, the municipal council has decided to provide a 50 percent discount on property tax for the current fiscal year on land used by general construction-oriented gravel and stone industries. It has been stated that in the case of locals in flood-affected areas who have already paid property tax in the current fiscal year, the property tax for the upcoming fiscal year will be adjusted based on evidence.
