Indigenous people urge to find a solution in accordance with the original spirit of the Constitution

Kathmandu, 13 Sep: The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Peoples (NEFIN) and indigenous-affiliated organizations have urged the expansion of the interim cabinet based on the principle of proportional inclusion in accordance with the main spirit and spirit of the constitution and as per the consensus of all parties.

67 indigenous nationalities organizations, including NEFIN, have jointly issued a statement demanding this. According to the Federation’s President, Gelje Lama Sherpa, a Zoom meeting was held with the leaders of indigenous organizations and a common understanding was made public.

The statement issued said, “Those who lost their lives during the Gen-G movement should be declared martyrs, the families of the deceased should be properly compensated, the helpless families should be guaranteed support, health, education, employment, etc., and the injured should be treated free of charge.”

Indigenous organizations have demanded that the Constitution of Nepal, 2072 BS(2015), be amended in a more progressive and forward-looking manner to ensure the unchangeable and popularly approved issues of republicanism, federalism, secularism, democracy, and proportional inclusive representation established through the sacrificial struggle of the Nepali people.

“We demand that a chief executive be directly elected by the people to maintain political stability in the country in the coming days,” the Indigenous Peoples’ Association has said. “The Nepalese government should amend the constitution and laws of Nepal in accordance with the international treaties and conventions signed and ratified in the past, as a state party, and implement them literally.”

The leadership of the indigenous organizations, concluding that there has been a planned infiltration by reactionary forces into the Genji generation’s movement, has said, “We condemn the vandalism and arson of the statue of Nepal’s first martyr Lakhan Thapa Magar installed in Pokhara, Kaski, the statue of the inclusion of indigenous people at the main square in Itahari, Sunsari, and the statue of the Dhimal caste in Damak, Jhapa.” They have demanded that the structures be rebuilt.

Indigenous organizations have congratulated the interim government’s Prime Minister Sushila Karki and urged her to listen to the demands of the indigenous people. The statement said, “To keep Nepal’s sovereignty, independence, and citizen supremacy intact, any domestic or foreign interference or any activity that adversely affects our aforementioned common understanding will not be accepted. We declare that if necessary, the indigenous and national communities will be forced to engage in struggle.”

The statement includes 67 organizations including Nepal Magar Association, Tharu Kalyan Karini Sabha, Nepal Tamang Ghedung, Newa Dey Dabu, Kirat Rai Yayokkha, Tamu Hyul Chhonj Dhin, Kirat Yakthung Chumlung, Nepal Sherpa Association, Sunuwar Sewa Samaj, Nepal Gangai Kalyan Parishad, Nepal Chepang Association, Nepal Chhantyal Association, Jirel Association Nepal, Danuwar Jagran Samiti, Nepal Darai Utthan Samaj, Kumal Samaj Sudhar Samiti, Nepal Dhanuk Samaj, Dhimal Jati Bikash Kendra, Nepal Pahari Bikash Sangha, Tajpuriya Samaj Kalyan Parishad, Nepal Baram Sangha, Bahragaunle Samaj Seva Samiti, Nepal Adivasi Janajati Journalists Federation, Bhujel Samaj Seva Samiti.
