Damauli (Tanahun), December 14: Farmers are excited after the black gram (dal) produced in Chimkeshwari, Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality-5 of Tanahun, found a market. The farmers here are excited after the black gram produced in Chimkeshwari, located at the highest altitude in the district (2,134 meters), found a market at the local level. Black gram produced in Bagai and Kheusing in Chimkeshwari is being sold easily at the market in Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality-3. There is a struggle to supply black gram to farmers as per demand.
Kaman Singh Gurung, a farmer from Kheusing, said that despite having to travel to find a market in the past years, they are happy that the black gram produced here has found a market this time. He said, “In the past, we had to travel to sell black gram, but now it is easy to sell it easily.” He said that the market, which has been operating in Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality for the past one year, has made it easier to sell and distribute agricultural products.
Sanumaya Bhujel, a farmer from Bagai, said that the attraction towards this farming will increase once the black gram starts finding a market. “Farmers are not encouraged towards farming when there is no market, but when the produced material finds a market, it increases the attraction,” she said. “With the initiative of the village council, it has become easier to sell black gram easily.”
Six thousand 75 kilograms of black gram have been sold at the market in Aanbukhaireni. Four thousand two hundred first phase and one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five kilograms of black gram were sold in the second phase. During this, farmers have managed to earn an income of Rs. 1,215,000. In the first phase, black gram worth Rs. 840,000 and in the second phase, black gram worth Rs. 375,000 was sold, informed Santosh KC, head of the rural municipality’s agriculture branch. According to him, black gram has been sold at Rs. 200 per kilogram. “Due to high demand, it has not been possible to supply everyone,” said KC.
The rural municipality had arranged vehicles for transportation to the market. Similarly, KC said that arrangements have been made to provide a subsidy of Rs 25 per kg to farmers producing black gram. The rural municipality has been operating the market every Friday for the past one year. The market has worked to connect local farmers and consumers. Farmers have said that the market has developed as an effective place for the sale and distribution of local agricultural products.
Every Friday, farmers bring their agricultural product to the market for sale and distribution. Arrangements have been made to sell and distribute daily necessities such as honey, pumpkin, sisnu, gittha, amla, betheko saag, farsi munta, curd, mohi, simligan, etc. at the market.
Rural Municipality Chairperson Shukra Chuman informed that the market has been operated by renting the land for ten years. He said that the rural municipality has rented the land for an annual rent of Rs 250,000. Arrangements have been made to allow farmers from any ward of the rural municipality to bring their products here and sell it.
