Farewell to the Nepali team going to play the Cricket World Cup

Kathmandu, January 10: The Nepali team that will be playing in the ICC U-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup to be held in Malaysia has been bid farewell today. At a program organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) here today, Minister for Youth and Sports Tejulal Chaudhary, CAN officials and others bid farewell to the Nepali team captained by Pooja Mahato, wishing them success.

Minister for Youth and Sports Chaudhary expressed his belief that the Nepali youth team will perform excellently and expressed the need to advance the sports sector from the school level. The tournament, organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC), will be held from 20th to 25th of Magh (2-7 February). This is Nepal’s first participation in the tournament. Nepal has been placed in Group ‘D’ in the World Cup, which is being participated by 16 different nations.

Nepal is in group A along with Bangladesh, Australia and Scotland. Nepal will open the tournament by playing its first match of the group stage against Bangladesh on Magh 5(January 18). Similarly, it will play its second match against Scotland on Magh 7 (20 January)and will play its third match against Australia on Magh 9 (22 January).

Group ‘A’ of the World Cup includes hosts Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. Similarly, Group ‘B’ includes England, Ireland, Pakistan and the USA, while Group ‘C’ includes New Zealand, Samoa, South Africa and Nigeria.

Along with captain Mahato, the Nepali youth team includes Soni Pakhrin, Kiran Kumari Kunwar, Krishma Gurung, Sana Prabin, Sneha Mahara, Savitra Dhami, Rachana Chaudhary, Anu Kadayat, Trishana BK, Riya Sharma, Alisha Kumari Yadav, Kusum Godar, Simana KC and Jyotsika Marasini.

Nepali team coach Mahesh Prasad Rijal said that the Nepali team’s training has been good and that they plan to achieve 100 percent results in the competition. Nepali team captain Mahato expressed his commitment to perform well in the competition and said that they plan to create new history in the World Cup. The Nepali team will depart for Malaysia on Saturday.
