Attack on Kiev by Russia

On November 13, 2024, Russia launched a major attack on Kyiv using a combination of drones and missiles, targeting both civilian and critical infrastructure. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted numerous drones and missiles, though some reached their targets, causing structural damage and power outages. The Ukrainian government reported explosions throughout the city as air raid sirens sounded, marking an ongoing pattern of escalated strikes on Ukrainian cities as winter approaches and tensions intensify in the broader conflict.

Russia stepped up its attack on Kyiv on Wednesday, launching more than 70 aerial and drone missile attacks on the capital, officials said. As Russian forces advance in the east, the battlefield continues to be attacked, with growing concerns over future US aid following Donald Trump’s victory. Residents are taking refuge in an underground metro station in the center of the capital after an explosion in the Ukrainian city of Rajvani, AFP reported.

Officials in Kyiv have shown photos of one person injured when a drone crashed in the suburb of Brovary and a fire in the affected area. The head of the “Black Sea” region has announced that a 52-year-old woman was killed in a drone attack by the Kremlin in the southern region of Kherson. Several air raid sirens were reportedly sounding as officials announced that the missiles were being stopped in Kyiv.

As the missiles neared Kyiv, city officials said the attack ended with multiple ballistic missiles striking the capital simultaneously. The attack comes during a week of increasing attacks on Ukrainian cities, mainly in the south of the war-torn country. A 32-year-old mother and her three children were killed in a Russian attack on President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown a day ago. Ukraine has been calling on its Western allies for months to provide more air defense systems to deter Russian attacks on cities and critical infrastructure.
