U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that a ceasefire will take place between Israel and Iran. On social media, he wrote, “I am pleased to make this announcement. A full ceasefire between Israel and Iran will take effect in 12 hours — that means it will begin in 6 hours from now. Iran will observe the ceasefire for the first 12 hours, and then Israel will lay down its arms in the following 12 hours.”
He thanked the leaders of both countries for their cooperation in ending the war that had been ongoing for 12 days. He also noted that the war could have lasted for years, resulting in unprecedented death and destruction.
“Congratulations to Prime Minister Netanyahu, and to the people of Israel and Iran, who have longed for peace in the Middle East. This is a great day for the world,” he said. He also stated that once one side initiates the ceasefire, the other would follow suit and halt its actions.
According to Reuters news agency, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani persuaded Iran to accept the U.S. proposal for a ceasefire. This discussion reportedly took place over a phone call with Iranian officials. Trump stated that Israel was also ready for the ceasefire and had sought Qatar’s help in persuading Iran.
Israel’s Minister for Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, has confirmed the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. In a social media post, he expressed gratitude to Israeli soldiers, pilots, intelligence officers, and others involved. He also thanked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump, stating, “This courageous decision will be remembered in history as a symbol of faith, bravery, and moral clarity.”
According to CNN, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is holding a meeting with members of his Security Council. Attendees include Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, Defense Minister Israel Katz, Shas Party leader Aryeh Deri, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
On Tuesday night, Trump claimed a ceasefire had been reached. Prior to that, Iran had launched an attack on a U.S. military camp located in Qatar.
