As tensions between India and Pakistan escalate, misinformation and unverified rumors are spreading on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC). With inputs from international media, including Al Jazeera, here is a summary of the key recent developments:
Pakistan’s Claim: Pakistan alleged on Thursday that India sent offensive drones into its territory, killing at least two Pakistani civilians. The Pakistani military also claimed to have shot down 25 Indian drones in its airspace.
India’s Allegation: India has accused Pakistan of carrying out attacks in several areas of Jammu, including Akhnoor, Samba, and Kathua.
India’s Additional Claim: India further stated that Pakistan launched missile and drone strikes at military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur—areas close to the border between the two countries.
Pakistani Pilot Captured?: Indian media reported that a Pakistani fighter pilot ejected near Jaisalmer after his aircraft was hit and was subsequently captured by Indian security forces.
Pakistan’s Denial: Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, denied on Thursday that Pakistan had launched any attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. He rejected claims that Pakistani forces had “crossed the international border to open fire” and also dismissed reports of a Pakistani pilot being captured.
U.S. Expresses Concern: U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that Secretary of State Marco Rubio held phone calls with leaders from both India and Pakistan, emphasizing “the urgent need to de-escalate tensions.”
Revelation by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the U.S.: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the U.S., Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has confirmed that there has been contact between India and Pakistan at the national security level. However, amid recent developments and provocative statements from both sides, he urged immediate de-escalation of tensions.
In an interview with CNN, Sheikh said, “The responsibility for de-escalation now lies on India’s shoulders, but there are limits to restraint. Pakistan reserves the right to respond. Public sentiment is pressuring our government to take action.”
PSL’s Remaining Matches Moved to UAE: Due to rising tensions with India and growing security concerns, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to shift the remaining eight matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
PCB Chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the decision was made keeping players’ safety in mind. “The PCB has always believed that politics and sports should remain separate,” Naqvi said.
He further added, “However, considering India’s reckless and dangerous move of targeting a sports stadium, the PCB was compelled to take this decision.” The PCB’s official statement quoted Naqvi as saying.
Turkish Prime Minister’s Reaction: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reacted to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan in a post on social media platform X.
Erdoğan wrote, “The news of civilian casualties in the missile attacks deeply concerns us, as this escalation between India and Pakistan could now turn into a serious conflict.”
Erdogan had held a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif just a day earlier.
