Gen Z Youth revolution Nepal 2025:

Kathmandu, 10 Sep: A major uprising took place in Nepal on September 8 and 9. It was the most significant in the country’s history, sparked by the government’s shutdown of social media and fueled by anger against corruption and mismanagement. This was a massive nationwide movement led by Gen Z. But who is the main leader of Gen Z? As people searched for the answer, the name most often heard as the key leader behind this movement was Sudan Gurung.

Sudan Gurung: Leader of Nepal’s Gen Z Uprising Against Corruption

Sudan Gurung is a key figure behind the recent protests in Nepal, particularly among Gen Z protesters. As the president of Hami Nepal, a youth-led NGO, he’s been instrumental in organizing demonstrations against corruption and a social media ban, which have resulted in at least 23 deaths until now. Gurung’s activism gained momentum after the 2015 earthquake, during which he lost his child, prompting him to dedicate his life to philanthropy and disaster relief efforts.

He is 36 years old. His age is not meet with Gen Z age. From the news sources, Sudan Gurung is not being described as a “master planner” in a conspiratorial sense, but rather as the face and leading figure of the Gen Z protest in Nepal. Media repeatedly highlight him as the “prominent figure,” “forefront leader,” or “symbolic voice” of the movement. He became the rallying point for the youth who were already frustrated with corruption, unemployment, and the recent social media ban.

Is he a leader associated meeting with the Nepal Army?

The current situation in Nepal is volatile, with the army preparing to step in amid protests and political uncertainty. The parliament lies in ruins, and there’s a looming possibility of military rule, raising concerns about basic freedoms and democratic rights.
Given the circumstances, it’s possible that Sudan Gurung might be involved in talks with the Nepal army as a representative of the Gen Z movement. Nevertheless, without further confirmation, it’s challenging to determine his exact role in such a meeting.
Future Prime Minister

The main reasons behind the current movement are corruption and the shutdown of social media. Nepal has many political parties, but whichever party comes to power, it engages in corruption, acts against the will of the people, fails to solve the problem of unemployment, and appoints only its own relatives and allies to government positions.

That is why the youth of today seem to be searching for a clean individual who is not tied to any political party. If we are to name such figures, Kulman Ghising, Balen Shah, and Harka Sampang come to the forefront. Among these three, there is an early assumption that one of them will inevitably become the Prime Minister.
