We lost a child, why fight for the post?

Kathmandu, 12 Sep: ‘The fight for the post has started again after playing Holi in the blood of our children,’ said Rachana Khatiwada, who lost her only son.

Rasik Khatiwada, 22, lost his life after being shot by police during the Gen Z protests on Monday and Tuesday. His body is in the morgue of the Teaching Hospital. His body has not even been cremated.

However, there is a fight over who will be the Prime Minister. She is angry that instead of consoling the grieving families of the deceased, they are fighting for the chair.

Like him, relatives of other deceased are also angry about the ongoing controversy over who will be the prime minister after the incident. They have expressed their anger that the fight for the chair has started before the funeral of their loved ones has even taken place.

A scuffle broke out between two groups in front of the Nepali Army headquarters on Thursday as various groups were putting forward their respective names for the post of Prime Minister.

They said that the power is being shaken even before the body is cremated, which is causing them more pain. Relatives of the deceased were very angry at the tribute meeting held at the Teaching Hospital morgue on Thursday evening.

“The leaders who need a post had to come here, saying we are the leaders. Their leaders are our children. Those who lost their lives are the real leaders. Whoever the leaders were, our children are dead,” Khatiwada said.

Shrijana Shrestha, the grandmother of Shree Krishna Shrestha, who died after being shot by police, said that they have no interest in politics. They only want justice, she said.

Saying that there is no point in living after losing her children, she is determined to fight for justice until her last breath. ‘What will happen to us if we live after losing our children? We have no interest in politics,’ said Srijana.

They have also said that they will not allow their children to undergo post-mortems. Those who need it are allowed to do so, but they have said that they will not allow their children’s bodies to be dissected.

“The world knows that our children were shot and killed. Who will do the postmortem for?” Khatiwada said.

“Many parents still haven’t found the bodies of their children. Journalists and YouTubers are also busy playing political games instead of coming to understand the truth of the incident,” said Srijana.

The victim’s family has said that they will continue to raise their voices for justice peacefully in the coming days and continue their agitation until their demands are met.

“Santosh used to say, who lost his life was shot dead by police that the corruption, poverty, and injustice prevalent in the country should end, and that we, the youth, should move forward for that. After all, he became a martyr,” Bhola said, “It’s not the same old trend again, there should be reform, the country should develop.”
