Kathmandu, 30 Jul: A middle-aged man who had previously served five years in prison for murdering his wife has now caused another tragedy due to an extramarital affair — one person has been killed and two others seriously injured.
On Monday night, Ram Babu Sah, a 35-year-old resident of Ichhapur in Kshireshwarnath Municipality–9, Dhanusha, attacked three individuals with a khukuri (a traditional Nepali curved knife) in Kataiyachauri, located in Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City–4, where they were living in rented rooms.
According to police, Sah fatally attacked 14-year-old Anjali Kumari Yadav, the daughter of Dinesh Yadav from Shantipur, Bateshwar Rural Municipality–5, also in Dhanusha. Two others were critically injured in the incident.
Around 11 p.m. on Monday night, Ram Babu Sah reportedly stormed into the house in Janakpur where the victims were living in rented rooms and began attacking them indiscriminately with a khukuri. In the assault, 14-year-old Anjali Kumari Yadav was killed, while 35-year-old Asha Yadav and 15-year-old Radha Yadav were injured. Anjali was Asha’s daughter, and Radha her niece.
According to Police Inspector Anil Baitha of the Dhanusha District Police Office, Anjali died on the spot after being struck in the neck with the khukuri. The two injured individuals, Asha and Radha, were taken to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur for treatment. Radha has since been discharged, while Asha remains under medical care.
Dinesh Yadav, Asha’s husband, claimed that his wife and Ram Babu Sah were involved in an illicit relationship. “I brought my wife back home multiple times, but Ram Babu didn’t allow her to stay with me,” Yadav said. “My son lives with me, but my wife Asha was keeping our daughter Anjali with her in Janakpur.”
According to Dinesh, it was widely known in the village that Asha and Ram Babu Sah were involved in an illicit relationship. “The matter had been discussed in the village and even reported to the police several times, but Ram Babu kept pursuing my wife,” he said. “He was pressuring her to marry him, but when she refused, he attacked her and their daughter with the intent to kill.”
Asha had been living in Janakpur, driving a tempo (three-wheeled vehicle) to support her daughter’s education. The deceased, Anjali, was studying in grade 9. Asha had rented that room only 15 days prior to the incident.
Ram Babu Sah had previously served five years in prison for murdering his wife. Just a month after being released, he married another woman. He has two daughters from his first wife and one daughter from his second wife.
Ram Babu Sah was released from prison due to what authorities described as good behavior. His mother has been living in a rented house in the village for the past two years. Following the incident, Ram Babu fled the scene and is currently on the run. According to the Dhanusha District Police Office, a search operation is underway to locate and apprehend him.
