Kathmandu, 8 January: Uddhab Prasad Chimoria has been unanimously elected as the president of the National Christian Federation of Nepal. The special convention held on January 7 has elected a 51-member central committee under the leadership of Chimoriya, the federation informed in a press conference at Sambad Dabali on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference, the newly elected president, Chimoria, announced that the convention has ended the long-standing organizational inactivity. Chimoria stated that a special convention had to be held after the then chairman CB Gahatraj was legally disqualified and said, “Gahatraj was forced to elect a new committee after the Kathmandu District Court sentenced Gahatraj to one year imprisonment in Likhat Kirte Kashur.”As the organization has been a prisoner of indecision for a long time, the excesses against the Christian community have increased throughout the country, he said, “Due to our inaction, nothing could be done even though the state protected those who did injustice to the community, but now we will definitely counter it strongly.” In the press conference, the Central Vice President of the Federation and Lumbini Province Chief Bishnu Pariyar gave information about the special convention and general meeting held on Tuesday. According to him, advocate Badri Bahadur Dulal coordinated the election committee for the selection of the newly elected Central Working Committee, while Pastor Krishna K.C. was the coordinator of the presiding committee.
The newly elected working committee presented by the election committee and the president was unanimously approved by the convention.
