Janai Purnima
Janai Purnima is Hindu festival, celebrates all over the country in Nepal. Family and relatives get together and eat Kwati and change or renew Janai. This Janai is yellow color and red too. Janai is sacred threads which has been changed to Hindus by Hindu priests.
Gai Jatra
Gai Jatra is celebrated in Kathmandu valley. Gai Jatra is a festival of singing and dancing on road. Gai means “Cow” is goddess of Hindu religion. This festival is time to remember of lost ones of family. The children dress up as cow and parade on streets. This festival originally was started to celebrate by Malla rulers.
Shri Krishna Janma Asthami
Shri Krishna Janma Ashthami is celebrated as birthday of lord Krishna as eight avatar of lord Vishnu. Ashthami means “eight” is dark of fortnight and another significance is legend and he is eighth child of his mother. This is also famous festival of Hindu religion.
Teej
Teej is also known Haritalika, celebrated by Hindu women in Nepal. Hindu women are fasting and pray to lord Shiva to get suitable bridegrooms for them and live a long their husbands. This festival is celebrated for three days. Thousands of women surrounds at Pashupati temple with wearing red and green. Most of women dance and sing in this festival. The lyrics of songs represent of sorrow, pain, discrimination and happy.
