Kathmandu, February 25: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has rescued a total of 73 children in the previous fiscal year and so far in the current fiscal year.
The metropolis has stated that 73 children, including 41 boys and 32 girls, have been rescued. Of these, 38 children have been sent to shelter homes. 34 have been reunited with their families. After the rescue, the cases of seven have been forwarded to the judicial process. Four of them are accused of rape, two of child sexual abuse, and one of beating and enslaving. In the last two incidents, the psychosocial report and joint monitoring report of the KMC were considered as complaints and the cases were prosecuted on that basis, informed Praveen Silwal, a member of the Child Rights Committee.
KMC Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol urged attention to the legal and practical aspects that should be adopted while rescuing children from risky situations, as well as the methods and measures that should be adopted to prevent the negative impact that may have on the psychology of children in the process.
Deputy Chief Dangol said, “Although the agencies working for the welfare of children are different, the expected goal is the same for all. Let us continue cooperation and coordination. We have also ensured the presence of local police representatives in the ward women’s network.”
In the discussion held in the presence of Deputy Chief Dangol, Deputy Inspector General of Police Uma Prasad Chaturvedi of the Women, Children and Senior Citizen Services Directorate of Nepal Police mentioned that for the safety of citizens, action will be taken by preparing a complaint form based on the details received in any format and type.
