Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian sustained a leg injury during an Israeli airstrike last month targeting a meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, according to a report from Fars News Agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The strike reportedly occurred on June 16, hitting the lower floors of a government building in western Tehran where senior Iranian officials were gathered. Among those present were Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i, and other high-ranking leaders.
The alleged attack took place just four days after Israel launched a targeted air campaign against Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile infrastructure. According to the Fars report, six bombs or missiles struck access points and entryways to the building—seemingly intended to block escape routes and restrict airflow inside.
Although electricity to the facility was cut off, the officials reportedly managed to escape through an emergency hatch. During the escape, President Pezeshkian and several others allegedly suffered leg injuries.
In a recent interview with U.S. political commentator Tucker Carlson, Pezeshkian directly accused Israel of attempting to assassinate him. “They tried to bombard the area in which we were holding that meeting,” he said, claiming Israeli intelligence had pinpointed their location.
Israel has not officially commented on the report, and no independent verification of the airstrike has yet been made.
Fars noted that the precision of the Israeli strike has prompted Iranian authorities to launch an investigation into the possibility of an internal intelligence leak, raising concerns that Israel may have had access to inside information when planning and executing the attack.
While the exact location of the June 16 airstrike remains unconfirmed in the Fars report, the Iran International outlet previously reported that the attack occurred near Shahrak-e Gharb, a neighborhood in western Tehran.
Last week, IRGC General Mohsen Rezaei told state media that Israel had bombed the site of a Supreme National Security Council meeting, but claimed that none of its members were injured, according to Iran International.
The reported strike was part of a wider Israeli military operation that began 61 days after former U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 60-day deadline for a new nuclear deal with Iran. The campaign targeted senior military leaders, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment facilities, and Iran’s ballistic missile infrastructure. Israel claimed the strikes were necessary to prevent the Islamic Republic from carrying out its declared goal of destroying the Jewish state.

While military leadership sustained heavy losses, political figures were largely spared. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that “regime change was not a goal” of the war, signaling that the operation focused strictly on neutralizing military threats rather than targeting Iran’s political leadership.
On June 22, the United States joined the military campaign, launching coordinated strikes on Iran’s key nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan. Just two days later, the fighting came to a halt under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
In the aftermath of the conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that he had personally intervened to prevent American and Israeli forces from killing Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz asserted that Israel had refrained from targeting Khamenei only because his underground location remained unknown.
Although Iran has repeatedly denied intentions to acquire nuclear weapons, Western governments have raised alarm over Tehran’s actions. Iran has enriched uranium to levels beyond civilian use, restricted access for international nuclear inspectors, and rapidly expanded its ballistic missile program. Israel claimed that Iran had recently taken concrete steps toward nuclear weaponization.
In retaliation for the Israeli strikes, Iran launched over 500 ballistic missiles and approximately 1,100 drones at Israeli territory. According to Israeli health officials and hospitals, the massive attack killed 28 people and injured more than 3,000.
