Preparation to Take Interview from Field Security Personnel in the GenZ Movement

Kathmandu, 7 Nov: The high-level judicial inquiry commission formed to investigate and recommend action regarding the damages to public property during the Gen Z Andolan (Gen Z Movement) on Bhadau 23 and 24(Sep 8/9) has begun preparing to record statements from security personnel at various levels. The commission initiated the process of identifying responsible individuals and preparing for statements after the police partially submitted the details of the officers who were deployed in the field on those two days. For three weeks, the commission had been persistently requesting the police for the details of the police officers deployed in the field on the day of the incident.

According to the inquiry commission, among the details requested, they have received the details of the officers deployed for security in the Valley and the Federal Parliament, among other places. The commission’s spokesperson, Vijayanraj Sharma, stated that the process of receiving details from the police is ongoing. Sharma said, “We had requested the details of all field commanders inside and outside the Valley. They are arriving gradually. We will prioritize the received details and move the further process forward.” The commission had requested the details of field commanders in the Valley and districts outside the Valley on Bhadau 23 and 24. After the details requested three weeks ago did not arrive, the commission had sent a clarification letter to the Police Inspector General on Wednesday, questioning why action was not being taken. After the letter, the commission received some details.

On Thursday, the commission sent requests for details of the officers deployed in the field to various offices in the Valley. Similarly, it has also sent requests for details of the security commanders at the Federal Parliament and other bodies. However, the commission has not yet received all the details from across the country.

Previously, the police had responded that all personnel were in the field during the two days of the movement. When the commission asked for the details of the field commanders and received a response that everyone from constables to the Inspector General was in the field, the commission, expressing dissatisfaction, had again corresponded for the requested details.

The commission has so far been collecting details of the damages and complaints from the concerned bodies. The offices are rapidly sending in the details of the damages. Likewise, a team of the chairman and members have returned after monitoring and interacting in the districts that suffered damages during the movement. The commission has already completed tasks such as preparing questionnaires for recording statements from individuals involved in the incidents.

While collecting and analyzing the incident details, the commission has already recorded a statement from Satyaraj Joshi, the chief of the Nakhu Prison Office, focusing on the events of Bhadau 24. The commission had recorded Joshi’s statement focusing on the incident where Ravi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), was released from prison. In the same case, the commission has also already recorded a statement from RSP chairman Lamichhane.
