Kathmandu, 29 Aug: Preparations have been completed for the visit of the Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit at the friendly invitation of President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China.
Nepal’s high-level presence at the summit of this organization, considered one of the world’s largest regional security – economic organizations , is considered to be an important opportunity to further strengthen Nepal – China relations and demonstrate Nepal’s proactivity in multilateral cooperation.
During the visit, Prime Minister Oli is continuing to schedule bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as heads of state and government of other participating countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already made the visit program public through a press release, and the ministry has already held a briefing with the members of the visiting delegation at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar, in the presence of Prime Minister Oli yesterday.
Prime Minister Oli will leave for Tianjin, China, on Saturday morning to attend the SCO summit to be held in the city from August 30 to 3 September. He is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the evening of the same day, the ministry said.
Prime Minister Oli will participate in the summit and the 80th anniversary of the victory of China’s People’s War against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He will address the summit to be held in Tiananmen on September 1. On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli will meet with some of the world leaders participating in the summit. So far, it has been scheduled to meet with the heads of state / government of China and Russia, as well as Vietnam, Maldives, Laos, and Cambodia.
Similarly, Prime Minister Oli will travel to Beijing from Tianjin Square on September 2 and will meet with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. He will also participate in the parade on 3 September. The visiting delegation will return home on the same day night.
The visiting delegation will include Prime Minister Oli along with First Lady Radhika Shakya, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Raghuji Panta, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey, Nepali Congress MP Purna Bahadur Khadka, Prime Minister’s Economic and Development Advisor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, CPN (UML) MP Chhabilal Bishwakarma and high-level government officials.
