Dhulikhel, 18 Ashoj(Oct 4) : Dhankumar Lama of Namobuddha Municipality-5 Lhaskot said that all the goods in the shop have been emptied after the road was broken due to the flood caused by the incessant rain. As the Dasai festival is approaching, he expected that if the road is opened immediately for the citizens who are having problems even bringing food to their homes, it will be easier.
Anita Gautam, a teacher of Amarnath school in Roshi rural municipality-7, Thansingbensi, said that the immediate problems are roads, food and communication, so the state needs to pay attention to them first. He said that since there is no road, the citizens are facing problems including food and relief. Loknath Gautam, another resident of Roshi Rural Municipality-7, said that mines and crushers were the cause of more damage due to floods and said that the state should regulate illegal industries in the coming days.
Due to the incessant rains from Sep 26th to 28th, the floods swept away the roads, bridges and electricity poles from the villages, and now the transportation, electricity and communication services are broken. Many people have lost their lives due to the disaster and many people are being treated in hospitals due to injuries. Travelers who have traveled on the road are stranded on the road and are still traveling with hunger to reach their destination.
Due to the flood, the life of the citizens here is becoming difficult. Similarly, there are many citizens around Rosikhola who are forced to live a difficult life. It is not possible to buy noodles and biscuits available in the shops here. Besides, the shop is not even able to transport new goods and sell them. Thousands of vehicles plying daily are at a standstill after the floods in Roshi damaged various sections of the BP highway. Dozens of highways have been cut and damaged by floods, but most of them have been buried.
BP Highway is now deserted. Not only the highway is deserted, the surrounding settlements are also deserted. After the flood destroyed physical structures such as roads, electricity poles, water pipes, now the citizens of the area are facing problems in food, electricity, communication and healthcare. In the same way, the flood has swept away the crops planted along with hundreds of plantations around Rosikhola.
Dinesh Lama, chairman of Roshi rural municipality, said that the relationship between the community and the municipality has been broken due to the breakdown of roads, electricity and communication. He said that even in the midst of such a situation, the first priority has been given to search and rescue and at the same time, they are working to open blocked roads and focus on relief and health care. He said that the work of constructing an alternative route has been advanced so that the short-distance highway going east will be opened before December. On the one hand, the citizens affected by the calamity are injured and in pain, on the other hand, there is a lack of food and the citizens who are sick and do not get treatment in time, are suffering.
Bhaktapur road division office employee Chandra Bahadur Lama said that they are constantly making alternative roads temporarily with excavators and other equipment to open the road. According to the road division office, they are currently working by transporting fuel by helicopter to build temporary alternative routes at various places of the BP highway from Kavrepalanchok Namobuddha Municipality Chowkidanda to the border of Barkhikhola Sindhuli of Roshi Rural Municipality-12. In the last three days, four kilometers of road have been built from Mangaltar to Buldhunga.
Mahabharat Rural Municipality and Khanikhola Rural Municipality located in Dandapari and Bhumlu and Chowrideurali Rural Municipality of Koshipari have repaired the damaged road section and proceeded with the work for the operation of vehicles. Kanchhalal Jimba, chairman of Mahabharat Rural Municipality, said that the efforts to connect the BP highway through Charqilla Bhumichuli-Rajbas of Janmukti Lokmarg of Mahabharat Rural Municipality and to open Charqilla Rural Municipality center to Devitar Gokule section are going on. Chairman Indra Bahadur Thing said that Khanikhola rural municipality is trying to open Khopasi-Taldhunga road as part of the road section that connects Taldhuga to the district headquarters. He informed that the Dhulikhel-Bhakunde-Chowkidanda and Kavrebhanjang-Phoulbari-Namobuddha-Dapcha road sections of BP highway have been commissioned.
Chief District Officer of Kavrepalanchok Umesh Kumar Dhakal said that the work of rescuing the injured and those in trouble is still going on. Along with that, after holding meetings with all-party meetings, supporting agencies, etc., 10 different clusters were built and necessary instructions were given to work in the areas of water supply, health, food, agriculture, roads, electricity, communication, etc. According to the district administration office, Panauti municipality, Roshi rural municipality, Temal, Bethanchok, Chaunrideurali rural municipality and Mandandeupur municipality of the district are highly affected areas.
