Party leaders extend Udhauli, Yomari Punhi and Dhanya Purnima greetings

Kathmandu, Dec 15: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended best wishes on the occasion of the Kirat community’s Udhauli Parba festival, the Yomari Punhi (the Jyapu Day) of the Jyapu community and the Dhanya Purnima festival today. The NC president, on his and the party’s behalf, wished for the good health, long life and continued progress of all the Nepalis sisters and brothers within the country and abroad observing these festivals today.

In his message of best wishes, he said various linguistic, religious, caste and racial communities residing in Nepal have their own distinct culture and tradition, and also respecting each others’ religion, language, culture and customs. Stating that these festivals have been fostering harmony and goodwill in the Nepali society, the NC President wished that may these festivals inspire one and all to further promote peace, goodwill and prosperity in the nation.

Similarly, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal has extended best wishes on the occasion of these festivals. In a message of best wishes today, he stated that the unique culture and tradition of various indigenous nationalities and communities in the nation have contributed to enhancing social harmony and thereby making the national unity stronger.

According to him, the various cultural festivals with unique characteristics also contributed towards introducing the Nepali society to the world. He urged the communities concerned to preserve their unique festivals, culture and traditions. Leader Nepal viewed that the festivals also helped the nation move forward on the path of economic development by fostering social unity and mutual respect.

Likewise, former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has also extended festival best wishes, saying these festivals will motivate all to promote mutual respect, peace and harmony. He has also stressed on the need of establishing equality in the Nepali society with its religious diversity.

 National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal has expressed his belief that cultural festivals will further strengthen mutual goodwill, social relations, and strong national unity among all Nepalis. In his message of best wishes on the occasion of Udhauli festival and Yomari Punhi, he said that national unity within diversity is the identity of being Nepali.

Expressing best wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity and longevity to all Nepali brothers and sisters living in the country and abroad on the occasion of Udhauli, a special festival of the Kirat community, and Yomari Punhi, a festival of the Newar community, Chairman Dahal has mentioned that these festivals are a symbol of mutual reconciliation, social tolerance, promotion of culture and love of nature.

The Udhauli festival, which is based on an agricultural system, is celebrated by the nature-worshipping Kirat community after the crops ripen, offering offerings to their deities, seeking permission to eat, and remembering their ancestors with reverence. Chairman Dahal has clarified that during this festival, the Kirat community wears costumes that reflect their culture, sings songs and dances with instruments based on their original culture.

Stating that like the Udhauli festival, the special festival of the Newar community, Yomari Punhi, is also related to the agricultural system, Chairman Dahal said that it is customary to celebrate this festival with the belief that it brings wealth, growth, and abundance by eating a special dish made from newly imported rice flour.

“Our country, Nepal, has been defined in the constitution as a multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-lingual and multi-culturally diverse nation. The right of every citizen to celebrate festivals according to their faith and community and to practice religion according to their faith has been ensured as a fundamental right,” said Chairman Dahal in his congratulatory message.

साकेला नाच प्रस्तुत गरिँदै

Stating that our diversity is reflected in our culture, traditions, and festivals according to the various castes, religions, and sects within our nationality, he said that we have been observing different festivals, cultural customs, and traditions.
