Kathmandu, 11 March: Nepali films participating in international film festivals and winning awards is not new news. The film ‘Shambala’ directed by Min Bahadur Bham last Bhadra and the film ‘Rajagunj’ directed by Deepak Rauniyar, which will be released on 10 Falgun(22 Feb), have already proven themselves to be excellent at international film festivals.
Meanwhile, the British film ‘Kama’ starring Nepali actor Tank Dhamala has been showing in the UK and Ireland since February 23. Hollywood actors Matt Wakeford, Jemima Tomes, Mia Bennett and Indian actress Pooja Gupta have acted alongside him in the film. Dhamala, who acted in the Nepali film ‘Sarauto’, said that he has gained new experience in his acting journey.
“The audience has responded well to the film. I am very excited that the film in which I play the lead role is being screened like other foreign films. I have not been able to express this moment in words, it has added a brick to my acting journey,” he said.
Dhamala, who has also acted in the British film ‘Dangerous Game’ and the Indian film ‘Animal’, said that an attempt has been made through ‘Kama’ to show the story of the lengths to which people can go for betrayal and revenge. He also informed that he had undergone training in order to play the role of an army officer in the film.
“After training for some time with Simon Gibbon, who taught me acting, on the psychology of the character, I worked hard to look physically fit. After successfully capturing the mindset and physical movements of the army, I went to the cinema. After Nepali, I got the opportunity to work in Indian and British films, which gave me the opportunity to understand their working style,” said Dhamala.
The character he plays in the film learns of his wife’s death upon returning home from the war. Dhamala said that the events that unfold thereafter will entertain viewers who like ‘crime and thriller’ genre films.
Dhamala, who has been active in modeling since 2018, has been working in films, advertisements, and music videos. Stating that working in foreign films has made him more experienced, actor Dhamala said that in the coming days he will work in qualitative films rather than quantitative ones.
