National Traditional Food Festival begins

Chitwan, December 27: The National Food Festival has begun in Meghauli today on the occasion of Bharatpur Visit Year 2024. The festival was inaugurated by Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama.

Chief Minister Lama said that such festivals would be effective in understanding the importance of local food. He said, “Local food should be protected. If local food can be protected, domestic and foreign tourists will come.” He said, “It is necessary to work in a way that local food is appreciated.” He said that this would greatly help Nepal’s economy.

At the program, Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal said that the number of tourists during the Visit Bharatpur Year has been as per the target. He said that 200,000 foreign and 1 million domestic tourists visited the tourist areas of Bharatpur during the Visit Bharatpur Year. He said that the Visit Bharatpur Year has helped in promoting the tourist areas of the city at the national and international levels and has played an important role in increasing the number of domestic and foreign tourists.

Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan City, Chitrasen Adhikari, said that the Visit Year was organized with the aim of directly benefiting the people along with the development of the Metropolitan City. He said that this festival will provide additional energy to the local people to help make the Visit Year a success. He said that the festival will feature local food and a 77-meter-long map of Nepal representing 77 districts as a special attraction.

Coordinator Mayaram Chaudhary informed that there are 50 local food stalls at the festival, which will run until Poush 16. Local food items including local Tharu, Kumal, Darai, Magar, Gurung, Bote, and Musahar communities are displayed at the festival. Chaudhary said that the festival will be fruitful in improving the living standards of the local community. It is estimated that more than one lakh tourists will visit the festival.

During the program, Provincial Assembly members Uttam Joshi, Ishwor Sapkota, former Provincial Assembly member Krishna Bhurtel, Nepali Congress Chitwan Vice President Rajiv Neupane, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh District President Krishna Bhusal, RPP District Vice President Chetnath Wagle, Chief District Officer Prakash Poudel, and Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Suman Kumar Shrestha said that such festivals would be fruitful in researching how our ancestors lived their lives.

Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal recently spoke at the inauguration ceremony of the National Food Festival in Meghauli, Bharatpur. This event was organized as part of the Visit Bharatpur Year 2024 campaign, which aims to promote Bharatpur as a prime tourist destination. The campaign was officially launched on March 1, 2024, by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on the banks of the Narayani River.

The National Food Festival is one of several initiatives under this campaign, designed to attract both domestic and international tourists by showcasing the region’s rich culinary heritage.

Mayor Renu Dahal’s leadership has been instrumental in these efforts, reflecting her commitment to the city’s development and her proactive approach in engaging with various stakeholders to achieve these goals.
