Kathmandu, March 26: The issuance of climbing permits for this year’s spring mountain climbing season has begun. According to the Department of Tourism, a total of 58 people, including 18 women and 40 men, from eight climbing groups have received permits for climbing various peaks, including Annapurna-1.
So far, climbers from 24 countries, including Nepal, have obtained climbing permits. Department Director Liladhar Awasthi said that permission has been started for mountain climbing in the spring season. “Permissions have been started for mountain climbing in this season, permission will be given soon for climbing Mount Everest,” he said, adding, “The activity of climbing has increased in the Mount Everest region.”
Climbing companies are busy managing preparations for the Everest expedition. According to the department, companies such as Snow Horizon, Pioneer, Seven Summit Trek, Seven Summit Club, Elite Expedition, Himalayan Guides, Asian Trekking, and others are currently working at the Everest Base Camp, including camp management.
Spring is considered the best season for climbing mountains including Mount Everest. A significant number of foreigners come to climb Mount Everest during this season. The Everest Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has deployed ‘Icefall Doctors’ to pave the way for the spring season’s Everest climb. The SPCC has deployed a team of 10 people to pave the way from the base camp to the second camp of Mount Everest.
Similarly, skilled Everest climbers have recently been deployed for the work of ‘rope fixing’ (hanging ropes) to build a path from the second camp of Everest to the peak. The Mountaineering Association has deployed eight members of ten Sherpa climbers under the leadership of Ashok Lama to hang ropes to the peak of Everest. According to the association’s general secretary Rishiram Bhandari, the climbers went to Everest a few days ago for the spring season’s Everest and Lhotse mountain climbing. The Etke Expedition Company has been given the managerial responsibility of rope fixing for the spring season of 2025 for the Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam mountain climbing.
