Parbat, 19 January: The Kushma Municipality of the district has started cultivating the fields that have been lying fallow for a long time and has started producing millet. The municipality has produced 16 bushels of millet this year by making good use of the fallow land in Kushma-14 Arthur.
The municipality has started Kodokheti through the Prime Minister’s Employment Program to connect unemployed youth with employment and utilize barren land, said Amrit Subedi, the municipality’s employment coordinator. Stating that the barren land here was selected to link the program with production, he mentioned that this area was famous for Kodokheti in the past and that it would produce abundantly as it is a productive land.
Subedi said that the land in this area has become barren due to migration, foreign employment and concentration in cities for education, expansion of access to facilities and other reasons. Stating that the barren land has been utilized and cultivated in an area of ​​about 200 ropanis, he mentioned that 16 millet millet was produced from the cultivation done in the first phase.
The millet produced has been stored in the old ward office. The price of which has been fixed at Rs 250 per hectare. The millet tap is about 40 kg and its price has been fixed at Rs 400, said Employment Coordinator Subedi. According to this price, the municipality has earned Rs 96,000, including a total of Rs 80,000 for millet and Rs 16,000 for tap.
The program included registered youth from the ward who wanted to engage in minimum employment on barren land. Employment Coordinator Subedi said that the program was effective as it provided employment opportunities to the youth and also enabled crops to be grown on barren land.
Local Humnath Poudel said that the cultivation of millet, which was started after clearing fields full of weeds and grass, has sent a message that the land should not be left barren. He informed that about 25 women and 20 youth of the village have got the opportunity to work through this program.
Mayor Ramchandra Joshi said that the concept has been formulated to increase the internal income of the municipality by providing employment to the unemployed, utilizing fertile wasteland and selling the agricultural produce provided by the local level through conditional grants provided by the state. Stating that this work has been initiated in accordance with the policy and program of the municipality, he said that this program has started utilizing wasteland at a time when there is a shortage of manpower for farming in the village.
Kushma Municipality has launched the ‘Employment Program with the Mayor’. This program was launched from the current fiscal year with the aim of mobilizing the unemployed manpower of the municipality for development and construction. The municipality office has urged all unemployed youth to apply for the program according to their skills and qualifications.
