Texas (USA), 20 March: Mayors of the Lumbini Circuit have reached Texas, USA to promote the Lumbini region. The team of mayors has arrived in the US under the coordination and facilitation of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, USA and the Department of Tourism to promote tourism in the Lumbini region.
The visiting team is scheduled to interact and discuss with various bodies of the American and Nepali communities in Texas, New York, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC. The team of mayors of the Lumbini circuit on the Texas visit had separate interactions with members of the Texas Rajya Sabha, the mayor and office bearers of the local Ulish City, and leaders of the Nepali community, informed Netra Pandey, Vice President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association of America and Head of the Department of Tourism.
In an interaction program with the American and Nepali communities in Texas, a commitment was expressed to collaborate for the long-term promotion of tourism in the Lumbini region, preservation and development of Nepali religion and culture. In this context, the Texas Rajya Sabha meeting has also declared ‘Lumbini Advocacy Day’ by passing a resolution in the presence of the mayors.
“The aim of our visit is to introduce Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, to the international community. During the visit, we will establish sisterhood relations with local municipalities in the US, distribute informative materials prepared about the Lumbini region, and invite American and Nepali citizens to visit the Buddha Land and the municipalities of the Buddha Circuit in Nepal,” said Dhruv Kharel, Mayor of Devdaha Municipality.
At a welcome and meet-and-greet program organized by Nepali Society Texas, Greater Austin Nepali Society, Lumbini Sewa Society and other organizations, the heads of the Lumbini circuit had urged the second generation born and raised in the US to visit Lumbini. “The second generation born and raised in the US does not know about Nepal. For their holidays, they should plan to visit Lumbini in Nepal, not Australia or Switzerland. This will connect the second generation with their homeland. Through them, it will help promote Lumbini in the American community,” said Kapilvastu Municipality Mayor Sudip Poudel.
Dhanpat Yadav, the mayor of Ramnagar Municipality, Nawalparasi, said that they were excited about the visit to the US. He said that this would help in further promoting Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. The Lumbini Circuit Chief’s team is scheduled to meet the mayor in New York, sign an agreement with the Non-Resident Nepali Association, America in Virginia and Bana Sanstha in Baltimore, Maryland regarding tourism development, and hold discussions with the Nepali Embassy in Washington, DC, according to the Non-Resident Nepali Association, America Tourism Department.
