Mahindra’s Popular ‘Sporty’ EV in India Arrives in the Nepali Market — What Are Its Features?

Kathmandu, 15 Aug: When talking about electric vehicles, Chinese brands are often mentioned. At the recent ‘Naima Nepal Mobility Expo’ held at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu, we saw many Chinese-branded electric vehicles on display.

But today, we’re discussing the Indian brand ‘Mahindra.’

Established around 80 years ago in 1945, this company is one of India’s largest automobile manufacturers. It produces everything from SUVs to pickups, electric cars, tractors, trucks, and even two-wheelers. Mahindra’s vehicles are exported to over 100 countries.

For Nepal, the official distributor of Mahindra, Agni Group, unveiled three vehicles at the Bhrikuti Mandap expo. Among them were two electric models (BE-6 and XEV-9E) and one petrol vehicle.

In this story, we’re focusing on the electric vehicle model ‘BE-6.’

Introduced in the Indian market at the beginning of 2025, this vehicle has gained significant popularity. It also attracted a lot of attention at the Bhrikuti Mandap Expo in Nepal.

With its sporty design and performance, this EV gives off the vibe of a sports car. It is available in three variants in the Nepali market—Pack One, Pack Two, and Pack Three Select.

The Mahindra BE-6 electric vehicle, introduced to the Indian market in early 2025, has been gaining significant popularity and also drew considerable attention at the Bhrikuti Mandap Expo in Nepal. Available in three variants—Pack One, Pack Two, and Pack Three Select—with prices ranging from NPR 5.7 million to NPR 6.8 million, the BE-6 was even offered with a NPR 150,000 discount during the expo.

Equipped with a 59 kWh battery pack delivering 99 kW (133 HP) of power, the BE-6 falls into the high-performance category, making it capable of quick acceleration and suitable for both city commutes and long-distance travel. On a full charge, it can cover approximately 400 km—enough to comfortably travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara or Bhairahawa. While home charging takes about eight hours for a full charge, a 140 kW DC fast charger can take the battery from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

Designed with practicality in mind, the BE-6 features a 360-degree camera system for enhanced visibility in challenging weather conditions, such as monsoon rains and winter fog. Its compact 5-meter turning radius makes it easy to navigate narrow urban roads, a particularly useful feature for cities like Kathmandu.

Sagar Bhattarai from Agni Group highlights that the BE-6 combines power, efficiency, and safety, making it a well-rounded choice for Nepal’s diverse driving conditions. Whether for daily commutes or longer trips, this electric vehicle offers a blend of performance and convenience tailored to the needs of Nepali drivers.

The Mahindra BE-6 comes equipped with cutting-edge safety technologies designed to prevent accidents and protect passengers. Its adaptive cruise control system intelligently adjusts speed based on surrounding traffic, maintaining a safe following distance automatically. The vehicle’s emergency braking system takes this protection further by detecting potential collisions with obstacles, pedestrians or other vehicles and applying brakes if the driver doesn’t respond in time.

For driver monitoring, the BE-6 features an advanced drowsiness detection system that uses cabin cameras to track the driver’s alertness. If signs of fatigue or distraction are detected, the system issues immediate alerts through audible warnings or seat vibrations. In the event of an actual collision, six strategically placed airbags deploy instantly to cushion passengers from impact forces.

Parking becomes stress-free thanks to the 360-degree camera system that provides a complete view around the vehicle, eliminating blind spots. Combined with proximity sensors, this makes navigating tight urban spaces remarkably easy. These comprehensive safety features work together to create multiple layers of protection, making the BE-6 one of the safest electric vehicle options available in Nepal’s market today.

The Mahindra BE-6 boasts a thoughtfully designed interior that combines technology, comfort, and practicality. At its heart lies a sophisticated triple-screen setup – a 12.3-inch display for the driver and front passenger, complemented by two additional 12.3-inch screens for rear passengers, ensuring entertainment and information access for all occupants.

Overhead, a expansive 2.2 square meter ‘Infinity’ glass roof creates an airy, open atmosphere at the touch of a button. This panoramic feature not only floods the cabin with natural light but also offers stunning views of the surroundings, transforming into an illuminated canopy at night with customizable lighting options to suit any mood.

Engineered for Nepal’s diverse terrain, the BE-6 offers 8 inches of ground clearance, confidently navigating rough roads without scraping the underbody. Its dimensions (1.6m height, 1.8m width, 4.5m length) and generous 2.7m wheelbase provide exceptional interior space, ensuring passenger comfort while maintaining stability at high speeds or on uneven surfaces.

The audio experience matches the vehicle’s premium positioning with a 16-speaker system that delivers crystal-clear sound quality. These thoughtful design elements, combined with its impressive battery performance, rapid charging capability, and comprehensive safety systems, have made the BE-6 a standout choice in India and a promising contender in Nepal’s growing EV market, as noted by marketing manager Bhattarai.
