Local by-elections: All results announced

Kathmandu, 3rd December: All the results of the by-elections held on Sunday for 41 vacant posts at the local level have been announced. According to the Election Commission, after the counting of the votes of the head of Kirtipur municipality in Kathmandu, the vice chairman of Gourishankar rural municipality in Dolakha, the vice chairman of Sarkegad rural municipality in Humla and the ward chairman of Belka municipality-9 in Udaipur, the results were announced on Monday night.

Krishnaman Dangol of Congress has won as the head of Kirtipur Municipality by getting 5,334 votes. His nearest competitor, Shivasharan Maharjan of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) got 4,555 votes. Similarly, Surendra Manandhar of Nepal Communist Party (UML) got 4 thousand 327 votes and independent candidate Rajman Maharjan got 2 thousand 36 votes.

Nepal Communist Party (UML) candidate Uma Lungeli Magar Sherpa has won the vice-chairmanship of Gourishankar Rural Municipality of Dolakha. While he received 2,850 votes, his closest rival, the candidate of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center), Nim Leki Sherpa, received 2,600 votes. According to the Election Commission, Nepali Congress candidate Pasdiki Tamang got 1,727 votes, Rashtriya Prajatantra Party’s Mankumari Shrestha got 180 votes, Rashtriya Swatantra Party’s Goma Shrestha got 100 votes, and Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist) Ravina Khadka got 90 votes.

Devaki Timilsina of the Maoist Center has won the vice-chairmanship of Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla. The candidate of the Maoist Center, Timilsina, has won by a margin of 43 votes, trailing the candidate of the Nepali Congress, Savita Budha. In Sarkegad, out of 6,810 voters, 4,524 votes were cast. Timalsina won by getting 1,637 votes. His nearest rival Savita Budha of Nepali Congress got 1,594 votes, Jana Shahi of CPN-UML got 1,132 votes, Sangeeta Shahi of Rashtriya Prajatantra Party got 51 votes, Bakha Budha of Rashtriya Swatantra Party got 25 votes and independent candidate Naresh Shahi got nine votes.

According to the Commission, Bharat Ghimire of the Maoist Center has won the post of ward president of Belka Municipality-9 in Udaipur by getting 559 votes. His nearest competitor Mohan Khadka got 525 votes, Navraj Basnet of Nepali Congress got 404 votes, Rajkumar Rai of Janata Samajwadi Party got 207 votes, Tejman Bishwakarma of Rashtriya Swatantra Party got 123 votes.

According to the vote results, the Congress has won 16 ward positions including the head of Kirtipur. Similarly, UML has won in one rural municipality chairman, two rural village vice chairman and five wards. The Maoist Center has won in seven wards including one rural village president, two rural village vice presidents and one municipal vice president. In the by-elections, Jaspa Nepal won two places, the United Socialist Party, the National Independent Party, and the Nepal Labor Farmers Party won one place each, and an independent candidate also became the ward president. Although by-elections were scheduled for a total of 44 posts, only 41 posts were voted on Sunday.

The head of the district coordination committee of Okhaldhunga and Kailali and the ward president of Putha Uttarganga-2 in Rukum East was elected unopposed. According to the commission, there were 376 candidates, 274 from political parties and 12 independent candidates, in the by-elections for a total of 41 positions, including one head of the municipality, one deputy head, two village presidents, four vice presidents and 33 ward presidents.

Where was he/she elected?

Namonarayan Majhi of the Maoist Center won as the chairman of Gramthan Rural Municipality of Morang by getting 6,969 votes. His rival Balaram Sardar Tharu of Congress got 5,333 votes. UML’s Janga Bahadur Shahi won the chairmanship of Mahabun Rural Municipality of Dailekh with 3,127 votes. His rival Jhalak Bahadur Bhandari of Congress got 2,675 votes.

Devka Lamichhane of Maoist was elected as the Deputy Chief of Nalgad Municipality of Jajarkot with 4,272 votes. His nearest competitor, Indra Chand (Singh) of Congress, has received 3147 votes. Narpur Budha of the Maoist center won the vice-chairmanship of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality of Rukum (Eastern part) by securing 3,627 votes. His rival, UML-Congress alliance candidate Kesha Kumari Tulachan, got only 2,128 votes.

UML’s Sulochanakumari Bhandari won the Swamikartik Khapar rural municipality vice president post in Bajura. While he got 1,740 votes, Pultisara Shahi of Congress got 1,474 votes. UML’s Kumari Sawaden has won in Sirijanga Rural Municipality-3 of Taplejung with 353 votes. His nearest rival, Ambi Souden of the Maoist Center, got 251 votes. Independent candidate Lakshmi Prasad Oli won in Jhapa’s Kankai Municipality Ward No. 6 by getting 493 votes. His rival Tularam Basnet of UML got 356 votes.

Congress’s Nagendra Limbu won in Laligurans Municipality-8 of Tehrathum by getting 440 votes. Buddha Bahadur Limbu of UML was defeated with him by getting 360 votes. Tetar Sahu of Congress won by getting 816 votes while Kusheshwar Kherwar of Maoist Center was defeated by getting 794 votes in Garhi Rural Municipality-6 of Sunsari.

UML’s Ganga Bahadur Tamang won in Molung rural municipality-5 of Okhaldhunga by getting 399 votes. His competitor Ghanshyam Dahal of Congress was defeated by getting 177 votes. In Triyuga Municipality-12 of Udaipur, Naveen Kumar Vantawa Rai of the Maoist Center won. He got 923 votes while UML’s Lakshminarayan Chaudhary got 688 votes.

Dhirendra Kumar Sah of Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal has been elected as the ward president of Dakneshwari Municipality-1 of Saptari. Bhuliadevi Tharuni of Congress was defeated by him by getting only 587 votes. In Dakneshwari-4, Devendra Prasad Yadav of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal won by getting 372 votes. His rival Jogindra Rai Amat of Congress got 277 votes.

In Dhanushadham municipality-1, Sunil Kapar of Maoist center won with 684 votes. His opponent Ashok Kumar Mandal of Congress got 620 votes. Sakivul Khan of UML was elected as the ward president of Ramgopalpur Municipality-2 of Mahottari by getting 631 votes. His competitor Aitikumari Yadav got 534 votes. In Rautahat’s Ishanath Municipality-7, Sheikh Abdul Khalik of Congress won with 627 votes, while Sheikh Anwar of UML got 575 votes. Bajrangi Prasad Yadav of Gadhimai Municipality-8 Integrated Samajwadi was elected by getting 655 votes. His rival Jeeuti Devi Yadav of UML got 631 votes.

While Samse Alam of Congress won the ward chairmanship of Rajpur Municipality-6 in Rautahat with 744 votes, Zikarlah of Maoist was defeated with 463 votes. Krishna Ghimire of Maoist Center won in Kakani rural municipality-2 of Nuwakot by getting 1085 votes. Surya Tamang of Congress got 587 votes. While Rozina Shrestha, the ward president of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16 won by securing two thousand nine hundred and two votes, her competitor Lakshmiratna Tuladhar of UML was defeated by securing two thousand two hundred and twenty votes.

In Kirtipur Municipality-1 of Kathmandu, Ichcha Kumar Maharjan of Congress was elected by getting 562 votes, while Harsh Maharjan of UML got only 498 votes. Rajendra Baniyan of Congress won in Ward No. 4. He got 742 votes while independent candidate Pavita Khadka (officer) got 495 votes. Congress’s Arjun Prasad Tiwari won the ward chairmanship of Makwanpur’s Hetauda sub-metropolis 12 with 2,063 votes. His competitor Ravikumar Pradhan of Maoist was defeated with 1,560 votes.

Bishnu Bahadur Magar of Maoist got 486 votes while his competitor Bhai Kaji got only 422 votes. Congress’s Anand Shrestha won the Ward Chairmanship of Gulmi’s Musikot Municipality-1 by getting 1,184 votes. His competitor Dal Bahadur Thapa of UML got 930 votes. Mohammad Tahir Mulsalma of UML won in Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-1 of Kapilvastu with 1,150 votes. His competitor Dinesh Kumar Yadav of Congress got 1076 votes. In Rolpa’s Runtigadhi Rural Municipality-4, Congress’s Bhupamani Punmagar won with 643 votes while UML’s Vegam Pun got 535 votes.

Congress candidate Amin Tharu won in Thakurbaba Municipality-4 of Bardia by securing 1,043 votes. His competitor Sher Bahadur Tharu got 678 votes. Nar Bahadur Jhankri of Maoist was elected as the ward president of Tripurasundari municipality-5 of Dolpa with 161 votes. His competitor Nar Bahadur Roka got 116 votes. In Tilagufa Municipality-4 of Calikot, Khadraj Shahi of Nepal Labor Kisan Party won with 143 votes while Naushoba Shahi of rival Maoist was limited to 150 votes. In Kushe Rural Municipality-7 of Jajarkot, Khamba Bahadur Singh of Congress won by getting 347 votes while Gorakh Bahadur Nepali of Maoist got 332 votes.

UML’s Lal Bahadur Shahi won as the ward president of Dullu municipality-13 of Dailekh by getting 574 votes. His competitor Resham Bahadur Shahi of Congress got 571 votes. Motiram Khatri of Congress was elected in Saniveri rural municipality-5 of Rukum (western part) with 590 votes. His rival Jasiram Basnet of Maoist got 537 votes.

While Dhirendra Pujara of Congress won the Ward Chairmanship of Surma Rural Municipality-4 of Bajhang with 657 votes, his competitor Lakhichandra Bohora of UML was limited to 487 votes. Mohan Thapa of Congress was elected in Purvi Chowki rural municipality-6 of Doti with 468 votes. His closest competitor, UML’s Dev Bahadur Thapa, got 310 votes.

While Dhansingh Kunwar of Congress won with 376 votes in Duhun Rural Municipality-5 of Darchula, Mansingh Badal of UML was limited to 358 votes. Prakash Chand of Congress was elected as the ward president of Bhimdatta Municipality-6 in Kanchanpur with 1,170 votes. His competitor Bahadur Chand of UML got 487 votes.
