Damauli (Tanahun), 27 January: The Goat Research Center in Bandipur, Tanahun has been conducting research related to goats and goats. The center has been developing technology and distributing breeding goats, lambs and grass seeds of advanced and local breeds, as well as protecting local breeds.
The center has established resource centers in various places for goat research. According to the center, external research centers have been established in Barbhanjyang in Bhanu Municipality, Baradi and Ghiring in Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality, Bakrang in Gorkha, Pekhuthana in Syangja, and Nilkantha in Dhading.
The center had produced more Khari goats than the target in the last fiscal year 2080/81. That year, 70 Khari goats were produced against the target of 34 Khari goats. According to Dr. Raju Kandel, head of the center, the center has produced offspring of Khari, Sinhal, Barbari, Jamunapari cross, pure Boer, Boer cross, pure Sanan and Sanan cross goats.
That year, six out of the six-year target of producing six Barbari offspring, 12 out of the four-year target of producing four Sinhalese offspring, 59 out of the 80-year target of producing 80 pure Bor offspring, 59 out of the 80-year target of producing 80 pure Bor offspring, 159 out of the 173-year target of producing 173 Boer offspring, 25 out of the 15-year target of producing 15 pure Sanan offspring, and 66 out of the 33-year target of producing 33 Sanan offspring were produced.
The demand for Boer goats is high at the research center. It is said that the demand for Boer goats has increased because they are more preferred in Nepal. He said, “The demand for Boer goats is higher than the local breeds, and the demand for Jamunapani and Khari goats is also equal.”
The center has distributed 142 goats that year. Chief Dr. Kandel says that goats produced here are distributed to most districts of Nepal. 45 100 percent bore goats have been distributed. Kandel says that the goats have been distributed to Myagdi, Solukhumbu, Palpa, Gorkha, Kailali, Kaski, Kathmandu, Dang, Ramechhap, Chitwan, Tanahun, Dolakha, Udayapur, Lamjung, Syangja, Rukum West, and Dhading.
Meanwhile, goat farming training has started from Sunday. The training will be conducted till Magh 20. 20 commercial farmers from all seven provinces are participating in the training. Under the residential training, farmers will be provided with various knowledge related to goat farming through experimental methods, informed the head of the center, Dr. Kandel. He mentioned that practical exercises will be conducted in the training on topics including disease vaccination, feed management, breeding methods, and cage management.
