Government’s decision to collect ‘dedicated’ and ‘trunk line’ electricity tariff arrears within fifteen days

Kathmandu, 11 Nov: The government has decided to collect the arrears of ‘dedicated’ and ‘trunk line’ electricity tariffs on the basis of ‘Time of Day’ (TOD) meters, which have been in dispute for a long time. Today, while announcing yesterday’s decision of the Council of Ministers, Government Spokesperson and Minister of Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung said that it has been decided to collect electricity tariff arrears within 15 days and to connect the cut off electricity of industries that have not paid the arrears within 24 hours.

“It has been decided to have the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation do the collection within fifteen days after calculating the outstanding amount of electricity consumed by the customers who consume electricity from dedicated feeder and trunk line (based on TOD meter as well) according to the applicable law on tariff determination and recovery”, said Minister of Communication Gurung, “Dedicated Due to disputes regarding electricity tariffs of customers consuming electricity from feeders and trunk lines, production decreased when electricity supply was stopped. Due to the direct impact on the employment of the workers working in the industry and the impact on the overall economy, the ministry will have to make arrangements to install power lines within 24 hours in the industries where electricity supply has been cut off.

According to the decision of the Council of Ministers on December 24, 2080, the Council of Ministers also decided to give approval to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation to publish the report submitted on April 23, 2081 by the Inquiry Commission, which was formed to resolve the disputes related to the electricity tariffs of customers who consume electricity from dedicated feeders and trunk lines under the coordination of former Supreme Court judge Girish Chandra Lal. has done The Council of Ministers has also decided to approve the payment of USD 75,000 contribution on behalf of the Government of Nepal to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Similarly, Gurung informed that the resignation of Dr. Gunaraj Lohani, chairman of the Health Insurance Board, has been accepted.

The Council of Ministers has also decided to approve the implementation of the land consolidation project in Sabik Mastmandao Gavis-1 under Sanfebagar Municipality-6 of Achham District. The meeting of the Council of Ministers has also decided to approve the Customs Tariff Regulations, 2081 and the Passport (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2081. The Council of Ministers has decided to approve the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of Lumbini Province to participate in the ‘Sichuan International City Cooperation and Development Conference-2024’ which will be held in Chendu, Sichuan Province, China from 26th to 28th October.

The Council of Ministers has decided to approve the bilateral agreement between the Government of Nepal and the Government of Sweden in the field of cooperation and to authorize the Ministry of Forestry and Environment to sign the agreement on behalf of Nepal.
