European Commission President von der Leyen to visit India next week

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit New Delhi on February 27 and 28 with the College of Commissioners. The European Union office in India said in a public post on social media, “Von der Leyen will visit New Delhi on February 27 and 28 with a delegation including the College of Commissioners.”

“This unprecedented visit highlights the growing strength of EU-India relations,” the post said. This unprecedented visit comes after Commission President von der Leyen announced a new strategic agenda to be presented at the EU-India Summit this year.

It is believed that this visit by the EU delegation to India will emphasize strengthening the relationship that is crucial for the prosperity and security of both Europe and India. Confirming her visit to India, von der Leyen said, “In this era of intense geostrategic competition, Europe stands for openness, partnership and accessibility, and we want to deepen our relationship with India, one of our most trusted friends and allies.”

Europe and India are like-minded partners, bound by a shared belief that democracy best serves the people. “We are committed to strengthening our strategic partnership to advance trade, economic security, and resilient supply chains, through a shared technical agenda and strong security and defense cooperation,” he said.
